After speaking to numerous people on this subject; I still can't seem to get everyone on the same page. My thinking on the subject was that if you were going to go 400+ RWP you needed to do a 3.0L Build up with either an 8 or 16 valve head, although the 16 valve would be my preference.
I personally can't see getting that kind of HP out of the stock 2.5 without running a significant amount of boost, thus decreasing the longevity of the engine. If I were able to achieve the 400RWHP with the additional mods like: Larger turbo, engine management, larger injectors etc. without pushing 20+ PSI.
I would like to hear the members thoughts on this because I know we have a number of 951 owners who are running both of these setups. Personally, I am looking for more of a street car with decent bottom end, and some good legs up top. This is why I am considering the K27/9 Hybrid, as well as the K27 Big 6 for my car.
Thanks, and I look forward to the members responses.

Low end torque and 2.5 can't go together unless you run a higher compression bottom end along some boost. If you want good low end you need the 3.0. Also with a bigger engine you can run a little less boost.

From what engine builders and people who've had their engines built have said, building a 16v is a lot more expensive than an 8v, and has less power on the bottom end and more on the top. Hopefully on those guys will chime in on that.
It seems like the 2.5L guys who are running at around 400rwp are using things like E85 or meth injection, at of course increased boost levels. Rogue Ant (newest MAF supplier on here) experimented with a 2.5L n/a engine, and turboed it. All stock internals iirc. He was burning E85 and quite a bit of boost, and pushed I think 390whp. I think there's an article on his site if you want to read it over. www.roguetuning.com.
The thing to keep in mind if you want to build a 3L is that while the engine build is expensive, you also really should do other mods to the car like brakes, suspension, wheels n tires, etc. So the bill starts to go up cubically.

Pretty sure Corleone has got himself a modified Nissan GTR35 now. Those things are very quick and look a lot easier to get around tracks in super quick time. Cheating really....

I think Sid (blown 944) is the only person here who runs 400RWHP on a 2.5L with any sort of regularity. To get there it took an HX35 or 40 sized turbo (I think he changed at some point), E85, Josh's M-Tune and if I had to guess 22-24psi of boost.
The effect:

You are correct in that a 3L is more appropriate for 400whp, but the cost can be pretty high. There are a few 3L+ cars on here, including mine, that when finished racked up a bill north of $40,000. That did include everything for the engine, brakes, suspension, etc...
I also like how soon the torque hits on the 3L engines. Haven't dyno'd mine, but you can tell right off the bat that it's there sooner.
