I just got the first prototype part off the mold.
Some issues with it. I tried to do all layers at one time. This did not allow the CF to get into all corners well enough. Also it may be that I need to go with 8HS or 5HS weave for better corners. I will try some tricks to get the CF into the radius better. They are just sharp concave radii and will have to adjust slightly...

The 996/986 style ashtray delete has more forgiving curves, probably would have been easier to try that first.
I've been thinking about this a little more, and decided I would like a window switch plate in place of the ashtray. This is how it's done on the 996, and it's very easy and natural, I never even have to look at/for the switches to use them.
Looks like the phone tray has garnered some interest, but a phone tray is not going to work for me (I have the iPhone 4 with a large protective case that is basically the entire size of the ashtray plate), and it's already convenient enough to place it in the armrest compartment (which is a safer location all around).

I'd be interested in one, but you need to have a slot for the plug-in to the bottom USB port (that is how I access music to my head unit).
GREAT idea though.

2 reasons why I didn'y (yet).
1) I am thinking that the armrest (towards the rear) would be a place for a cup holder so that shifting wouldn't be affected
2) The pieces of mold material i have right now are not big enough. I will order some bigger, I just haven't gotten around to it for a project that I am just goofing around with.

To lart and co -> You don't know what my gauges are for... heh. Anyway, it's electric fuel pressure and A&F. I don't plan on watching A&F all the time, it's only for troubleshooting. With a-tune installed, and no MBC, I will just peak it at, record it with my phone, or ask a co-pilot to read me #s if curious. Just didn't want to rice up the interior too much.

Fuel Pressure is to help diagnose a cold weather no-start issue, and being alone, it helps to have it in the cabin. I have my own thread, so PM if you want to discuss it, or post there. Car is away till end of the year though. =(

I would also be interested in one in black that looks similar to the surrounding plastic.

This is a great idea. I recently did mine in billet to get a phone/change tray designed. You can only go so wide aft-to-front as the inner armrest frame screws get in the way. Also I drilled a 1/16" hole in it for the factory accessory light to shine thru.
