Right now I am using 3K - 5.7 ounce 2x2 Twill carbon fiber. It has the best "look". This is the type of fabric:

I may try and go to with a 3K- 11oz 8HS carbon. It forms around complex curves better. It looks like this:

I have a very nice mold (getting thick walled molds from the data was hard). I will cut the mold as soon as my end mills come in. I ordered 20 of them. Hopefully sometime this week they come in. All the end mills I have is too large to cut the tight radiuses.

I will keep you updated.

I took this picture a couple years ago at the Geneva auto show. These are actually for sale. They had a carbon fiber 911 also.

That is a neat car.

Ashtray delete - please! Something like the 986/996 ashtray delete, except oriented transverse instead of longitudinally - so that it can use the exact same rubber mat that the 986/996 ashtray delete uses.

If you can't access a 986/996 ashtray delete and want some assistance, I'll find one to send to you. I haven't actually measured the rubber mat but assume its dimensions should fit within the width of the 944 console.

IT might be a little larger than your set up can do – but the best ashtray delete would be a one piece part that goes from in front of the switches all the way back. In other words the whole shifter / console area.

That would be nice.

It is interesting that almost all the suggestions are ‘appearance’ items and not performance parts – my first thought was an intake manifold….a plenum that could be used with a CNC aluminum runner / flange.

Would a CF manifold make any performance increases?

A simple repro would be mostly bling. Would be a nice weight reduction though.

It would if it were attached to a set of CNC runners and a 16v head…..

Could you make a headlight lifter torque tube with carbon cantilevers? I have been thinking about making this only because every time I open the hood that big tube really bugs to me. It looks very heavy and out of place in a sports car.

This is what you need to make.
1. Mounting brackets each end.
2. L-shaped end caps for insertion into prefabbed carbon tube. When the endcaps are inserted and glued to the tube it would look exactly like the stock lifter torque tube but much lighter.
3. Pivot levers in carbon. You would of course need steel or aluminium inserts where the pivot ***** are attached to the levers.

This should save some weight where it counts; up high and up front.

I think the tube is bit too big for his machine.
