Danno, would this, and turning up the boost on a k26 to say 18psi reqire new chips? Just how much hp are we talking with water injection on a k26, max boost at 18psi, with water injection starting at 14 or so psi? Could you advance timing for more hp with water injection and the normal 15psi boost? Then make it one of the "alternate maps"?

Actually since most of our stock cars are running say ape stage 2 chips or guru chips, we will max out our injectors at 15 psi. So running any more boost over 15 will cause a lean engine running. However, with the water injection, you can set your boost to 18 or even 20 psi safely because you will have the choice to run an alcohol/water injection mixuture which adds a extra fuel to the intake and not to mention reduce the tendency for the engine to knock because of high intake temps and insufficient fuel.
From my understanding. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I understand that the water alcohol mix does not act as a fuel. It actually acts to cool the intake and increase the effective octane. You should be able to run the engine slightly more lean, but still on the rich side of stoich do to the extra protection from the water. You will need additional fuel to run higher boost levels, however, so beware.

Well, alcohol can actually raise the octane of fuel even without any cooling effect whatsoever. The fact that it cools is a bonus, since we all know that a cooler fuel air charge is less volatile and less prone to detonation. What makes the water so effective is its ability to hold latent heat energy though vaporization. Like throwing water on a hot skillet. All the water particles are vaporized and each molecule takes with it all the heat it can carry right out the exhaust. Running rich helps to prevent detonation in this same way, because the unburned fuel molecules do the job instead of the water, although not as well. Water is better than alcohol at this process. Since it takes much more energy to make water evaporate, by the same rules it can hold more heat energy on its way out of the engine.

But alcohol raises octane by istelf, This is why I plan on running a mixture to get the best of both worlds.

Danno,
For my 951 with the Huntley Racing Stage 2 turbo (I believe it is a T04E Garrett, I may be mistaken) and injectors (55lbs.) that I will be purchasing for you here soon once I get my engine back in, what would be a reasonable boost level I could set on my HKS EVC4 with Water Injection? 18, 20, 22 psi. ? I see people asking with stock turbos, but what if we have a larger turbo with raceware studs, o-ringed head, and wide fire gasket? You know my setup. Oh yeah, when I get this thing running I would like to cruise down again and party down in Santa Barbara with ya! This is long time over due.

Dan E. - I did get your private message - please call me to discuss your needs @ 719-271-5644 as answering e-mails and replying via the discussion board is cumbersome for me.

Thanks, Matt

Bret (ski) - I haven't gotten six yet. Please encourage all interested as I've put a 3-18 end to the group buy. I will have some data next Mon. on the effectiveness of the Brake Cooler with different nozzle locations and will post after some track time.
Thanks, Matt

Boostguy hitthe nail on the head.

Air/fuel rations only effect knock and or headgaskets because LEAN= HEAT. Richer conditions allow more of a cooling effect in the cylinder, but not as effecent hp results. My understanding is you get more power the leaner and lower octane you run. Water/alch injec is the biggest help in these factors, not to mention the low cost of water inj.,more power, and more safely run motor.

I'm in,
We still need some more to make this happen. Otherwise the price goes away. <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />

I guess I'll have to wait for next year to get the new turbo. I'd rather have an engine to put the turbo on. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I went with the basic kit for 225 plus the back flow pressure one way valve. Total out the door was $265ish.

Is no one else dreading the thought of driving over to the 76 station to add 100 octane to the pathetic 91 octane to make a safe happy medium? At around $60 for a tank of gas, it makes this kit look like a bargain.

What is the difference in systems that spray before the turbo and after the turbo?

I believe the Snow kit injects right before the throttle body which seems the easiest to install, but curious why some systems spray before the turbo, other than a higher pressure pump is needed to spray after turbo.
