Post MAP sensor upgrade 1

i just ordered a map sensor link from ARM developments ill be removing my afm and tossing it.the whole fuel control system will be totaly tunable VIA a remote tunoing module threw the entire fuel range plus ill be able to down load 3D maps of the fuel air ratio to my lap top.NO more barn door to slow the incoming air and total tunability for future upgrades.ill keep you posted on the outcome by the way the whole kit cost far less than a mass flow kit and far better tunability and 3D mapping!!!!

"but what in the heck are you talking about!"

Check out these discussions on using MAP sensors on our cars:

Hey Travis, gimme a call when this stuff comes in. I'll come down and help you with the installation!

Thumbs up

Check out those links to previous topics I posted above and follow the external links there...

The only difficulty I forsee here is fabricating a new intake tract to replace the stock serpentine tubing.

here is the link www.carmodifications.com the system is called a maplink.it is not a piggy back but a stand alone system that is very very easy to install check it out as for the intake trac im gonna use the stock intake boot with just a filter on the end for now.

I didn't see the maplink for a Porsche 951. Maybe I'm blind or just too tired.

To do a map conversion you must reprogram the ECU. Unless the ECU they are offering is compatible with the 951 electronics (which it may be), a signal modifier will not work.

When you convert to MAP sensing every fuel table must be changed along with the X and Y axis of each table. In addition, accelration enrichment must be changed as MAP sensors have a tendency to react slow to changes in air flow. Finally you will need a temperature sensor if you do not have one and a wideband if you are going to be tuning a turbo.

Besides lessening the intake restriction, the map sensor's must beneficial characteristic is its ability to read exactly what boost pressure the engine is at and relay this information to the computer which in turn correctly fuels the engine.

On our existing DMEs the computer is configured to run in idle, part throttle, and full throttle modes. The problem with a car running higher boost is that the full throttle fuel values for this particular level of boost will not be correct. The map sensor can correct this deficiency because it is always monitoring manifold pressure and therefore can accurately relay to the DME how much pressure the turbo is making.

The difference between MAP and VAF (our system) in terms of basic tuning and set up is that the MAP system does not have a seperate full throttle table. Instead, it relies on a large map that incorporates part and full throttle settings. On the VAF, part throttle and full throttle are two completely different maps and the ECU switches between them in many different types of situations.

In other words, unless the system above is constructed with a new ECU or a reprogrammed DME (by someone who actually has a clue), it will not work correctly. The car may run, but the benefits of a MAP sensor which include the ability to run a variety of different boost pressures safely and efficiently will be nil.

Best of luck and keep us updated.
