Bilstein is really where it's at with track oriented cars. I've never seen a Bilstein fail (outside of improper spring selection and extreme dropping/riding on bump stops). I just wish there were more budget options for the 944.
Help me out here... I thought the Firehawk and Escort Cup shocks were both Bilstein shocks, but with different valving? Besides that (according to the LR website), the rear Firehawk setup is shocks only with no springs, but the Escort Cup rears have coil-over springs. Do I have bad information?

To be honest, I might be giving these a try with the Bilstein Cup rates:

I have access to a shock/suspension engineer along with a shock dyno and I would probably test them on the street and track for a year before I can fully recommend them/resell them. There needs to be a better budget option for these cars.
Exactly, when you base your spring rates off of the fact that you want equal wheel rates f & r, you are doing something wrong

Also I advised to used the Escort cup rears because the Firehawk rears do not add "helper springs" - I agree with you these cars are too soft in general (front & rear) from the factory for today's tires/tastes

Have you tracked your car? What is your current setup?

I have a firehawk setup with rear coilovers so I'm pretty sure you can order them that way

I have the original M030 with fatigued Koni sports. Thought it would be a good time for an upgrade. Thinking of going full coil and delete the torsion bars.

The Firehawk setup is way too costly NOT to have a rear helper spring.

What sucks is for 700 dollars, I was able to put all new Bilstein Sports and H&R Sport or Race on my Z3 M Roadster. I wish that was an option for these 944s.
Thread revival here. I have the Bilstein Firehawk rears and plan on running these with the 30mm bars and 19mm SB. Why is this a bad setup for a track/street car? I am questioning this as I see comments as this is not adequate. I would think with that with the stiffer TB and sways with the relatively fast shock it would work well. Am I way off here? A lot of what I have read unless your going to go with some double adjustables in the rear, how much more benefit would the Escorts give over the Firehawks in the rear?

People like the Escort rears better because you can delete the torsion bars or run a higher rear wheel rate, since you are limited in torsion bar size.

That makes sense, so if I never plan on eliminating the bars, and going too stiff (greater than a 34mm bar) on the rear I should be ok then.

If you want to run 350-400lb/in wheel rates then the Escort rears would be better. Firehawk rears probably better for 250-300lb/in wheel rates.
So that would mean 27.5-28.5mm bars with Firehawks, approx.
Cheers,
Mike
