and i think perhaps rear mount would feed them with the cooler gas they are accustomed to and engineered for ..
I don't know where did everyone got it but only usual small displacement family car diesels have cooler (than usual gas engine) exhaust gases.
Truck engines have EGT's in 900-1000 C range. You should do some research
It is a common misbelief regarding diesels and turbos for those.
This turbo has been used in many engines which are smaller than 951 (like DSM 2.0 engines, Honda H22's etc) and they spool excellent with the VGT turbine. I have read 17 psi of boost @ 1900 rpm on 2,3 stroker DSM. That is very impressive to say at least. And this compressor flows ~650 hp worth of air on DSM 2.0.
I think there is someone on here Blown944 that has a Holset turbo on his 951.
I don't have that Holset on but I do have a Holset. It's a 40/35 hybrid using a Garret hotside. I'm very happy with it. I have abused it well beyond what a Garret could handle.
I'd like to do a VGT at some point but right now I'm after more horsepower than spoolup.
