How to drag race your 951...is it a drag car? :-)

Those are some good 60 foot times really, especially if you are not using drag radials (which will help you immensely).
The biggest issue I found when drag racing mine was shifting (not sure if its a transaxle thing).

I havnt had any issues shifting using the two step.
This year should be pretty interesting considering I now have a clutch that is holding and that I will have a couple different power plants to test out.
I'm shooting for consistent 1.6 second sixty foots.

Believe it or not there aren't too many vettes that can beat me up here even at high twelves. Most run low to mid 13's. I can only think of three that frequent the drag strip that are in the 11's. They either are pro charged or nitrous assisted.
I don't really care to compare to other cars much. I just want to run respectable times and see what I can do with it. Nobody at the drag strip knows how slow these things are anyway.

Hi Sid, congratulations for the very good quartermile-time.
I think you use 275/40/17 drag radials ? What kind of rim is the best solution for this tire size ?
Sometimes i visit the quartermile with my 951. I use 10x16" Avon-Slicks (no drag-slicks) on
original 9x16" design 90 rims. This configuration performs also good (best ET 11,55 / 129mp/h).
Upcoming i will change to 17" drag radials at 9x17" rims.

My car is a 944 Turbo model year `91. I drive the 951 since 20 years (only at nice weather) on the street and sometimes at the quartermile in Germany. Over the years i am are realized miscellaneous updates at the car. It is to much to list all Details (3liter-8V, KKK-Hybrid, HFM/MAF with Bosch DME/KLR & Apexi, KW V3 Suspension, etc).
But the transaxle, the gearbox and the axle ratio is completely original.
Therefore my interest above the drag radials at the 951.

Pretty sure Sid has run about 11 sec flat now. Perhaps lower.

Sorry about being MIA here. I've been having too much fun with my little 4g63 b210 datsun.
I use the 9" boxter wheels with 275 40 17s at about 18psi.
I have ran 10.80 at 134 down here, but it's just not as fun as going mid 9s at 143 in my little car, so I've semi retired the 944. I might take it again soon if I take the little one apart to do some more stuff. I think it will run a mid ten if I use some track prep. This track down here is not very good at prep.
To be honest though, I doubt I'll push it. For the simple fact that I'm just tired of breaking axles etc.
I think I have seen your car on drag times for a few years. Those are some great times!!
I just re read your post. I would use teh 16" wheels if I were you. I'd prefer to have more sidewall. So whatever size is equivalent to 275 40 17

10,80 at 134 sounds very good. Instead you need also a lot of horsepower for this time. The boxter wheel`s are a good option. I will go to use 9x17 fuchs wheels (very light). But i hope the tires suit to the wheelhouse. Yes it`s not always fun with the 951 at the track. I have also many issue`s with the axle. Often the drive to the track makes more fun as the quartermile. Please see the pictures below.
