broken ex-manifold
where can some one get and good exhaust manifold that doesnt cost big$$$mine is cracked and how about a aftermarket header instead any good ones out there that arent $1000.or used header for sale?

Was it the 2-3 header that cracked or the 1-4? I have a 1-4 I will sell ya for $100 bux, however my 2-3 cracked so is not good. I have since upgraded to the B&B headers. I seen some on ebay might want to check there.

Are we talking broke in two or just cracked?
I found cracks in mine and had a local welding shop weld them up and they did a nice job for $15
I would love a set of B&B's, but my 2.8 ltr engine build is taking all the extra money I can find.

I have two sets of headers and both sets are cracked on the 2-3 section. The welds are fractured about 75% of the way around the opening. I plan on taking the 2-3 sections into workd on Monday for a repair. Both 1-4 sections are ok? Is the 2-3 the most common to fail?

Guys - Any obvious/easy way to check for cracks when the manifold is still on the car? (With the heat shields still in place...)
I 'think' mine may have a crack (as it makes a bit of a VW put.put. noise when cold
Any suggestions? Thanks

My B&B's were 1k but came with a lifetime warranty. I was sick and tired of them breaking. Even if you re-weld them with wire they will probably still break, just takes time. The B&B fit was pretty goot took some adjusting tho. I would have them fixed right as you don't want to do this job again. I know I had to take my head off just to get my headers out. Good Luck.

Both sets I have had cracks in the 2-3. One was broken so badly, I pitched it. The 1-4 seems to be less prone to this. Maybe it is the bellows section on #1 allowing expansion/contraction?
I had them welded and am sending mine out for ceramic coating. Hopefully, that will cure the cracking problem. If it doesn't, I guess B&B or Broadfoot will get some more of my money.

If you are getting an exhaust leak you may see some residue around the header. Otherwise it's tough to see. However, if you can hear and abnormal sound then you may have a leak.
If you weld them ask the welder to use a 308L wire for filler. I've heard some people say that the headers are fabricated form an Inconel alloy. If that is true the 308L wire would be compatible with the Inconel or the more common 304.
Plan on them cracking again at some time because the underlying stress problem is still there.
