Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it.
OTOH, I will be Jeremy's garage monkey/slave for a very long time.(He ain't getting sexual favors no matter how many times he asks)

It took me a while but I finally found a machine shop that can remove the broken studs in the turbo hot side. the only place in town I could find uses EDM machines. High tech and high dollar. $125 to remove two broken studs??? SERIOUSLY?????
Oh well, if they can do the removal without damaging the hot side,

The flywheel is back from another machine shop and is ready to go in.

2-2.5 weeks and it should be about ready to fire up.

Got the turbo back from the EDM machine shop. The broken studs are out!!!!
The removal of the hot side to remove the broken studs seems to have loosened up some carbon deposits and now the hot side feels gritty when I turn it. It is most likely just some loose grit that could be blown out but why take chances when I am rebuilding everything else.

I had to pick up some t04 oil drain gaskets(I used the last one Jeremy had on hand) from Arizona turbo and tractor supply and had the turbo with me when I stopped. I had them take a look at the turbo to give me their professional opinion.

They suggested that I would probably be fine blowing off the carbon and reinstalling the hot side.

OTOH, they only charge $200 for a complete rebuild and they can have it for me tomorrow afternoon so it is being rebuilt just to be sure everything is perfect for the build up.

Things start to go together on Saturday!!!

Things are not always as they seem. The turbo felt ok but when the rebuilder got into it, he found loose carbon chunks that were putting groves in the bearing and the shaft. He machined the shaft, replaced the bearings and rebalanced everything.

He says this turbo(early Vitesse Stage 2) should be good for close to 700hp with the right setup. I'll be happy with half that to the wheels.

Can I borrow the tap and die set?

For those who were not able to attend, Jeremy and I put in about 14+ hours getting the new engine together and in the car on Saturday.
I had the car towed to my place on Sunday so I can work on it every day until it is finished.

I do NOT plan to drop another AOR trans off the jack and onto my arm. Once was enough and the AOR is now installed.
Ouch!
With proper tools that wouldn't happen

You have done nice work ! what color intake & other engine parts are?

I found out a day or two late that they make transmission jacks. That knowledge did NOT make my arm feel any better.

The color is a grey metallic from a Saturn. I do not remember the model or year. I can dig up the info if you need the details. I picked it because it matched the powder coating on my wheels. It looks pretty similar to the color you have on your son's parts.

Transmisson jacks are not that good with 951's. Here's son using one with 968 tiptronic trans.

That wooden one my friend made works much better

Yup, I should be home @ 6:30 ish. Only a 12.5 hour day today...livin on easy street. It's going to be a real PITA tapping that stud with the down pipe in the car. You may want to see if you can find a longer tap then what I have.

Only working half days this week. Slacker!

Did you have to drill the first hole you tapped or did the tap fit the existing hole?

The tap fit the exsisting hole but it was a bit loose so be careful. In all reality a time-sert would be the best option at this point but with it in the car you're pretty limited.

Pics of the progress. I still have a lot to do.

The Wheels turned out a bit more grey than pewter but I think I can deal with it.

I'm thinking the exhaust tip needs to come in a bunch. Oh well, the muffler needs to be turned a little too.
