Default How does the timing belt spring tensioner come off?

I am putting in a newer rebuilt in my car (86). It's a later motor with a spring tensioner. I want to put a new belt on. I loosened the bolt that holds the tension and then I removed two bolts but it won't come off. Do I have to pry it off?

3 nuts that mount the tensioner assembly to the studs on the block. Do not remove the tensioner swing arm off its pivot and locking studs. That is just part of the assembly. Need to remove it whole to remove and install a timing belt.

If you use the special tool for it and move the tensioner into the tensioned position and lock it there you will have an easier time getting to this nut. U will not be able to see it but use an socket and extension to get it out. Good luck.

undo the 3 nuts that hold it on and toss it in the trash...

ok, dont really do that, but its a POS and the early eccentric roller was way better. P Co. made some stupid changes to the 944 for the late cars...

Where behind the tensioner arm assembly is the hidden nut?

On the lower left part of the tensioner assembly.

As said earlier, release the tensioner to reach it.
Then, you may need to retension the tensioner about halfway to pull it out, otherwise the tensioner pulley will hit the water pump pulley as you pull the tensioner assembly out.
