I'm happy with my Super 53 Turbo that i bought from LR. Great vendor with excellent cy=ustomer service. I think your spool will be very reasonable (a couple hundred below mine). That turbo should be great with stock inj's with minimal supporting mods.

when I was first rolling with my Super53 I was shocked at the slow spool...IT WAS NOT THE TURBO'S FAULT. After repairing some vacuum leaks and a little tuning the car responds very nice and boost is all in by 4k. If i recall LR said I could expect a couple hundred RPM's more lag vs. the one you referenced.

Interesting, I've been looking at the 48 and 53 but like the 48 because it's comparable to a K27. Are you going wet or dry?

I felt the 53 made sense as i plan to eventually run larger inj's and MAF. regardless I'm making great and useable power right now with 17#'s and the boost NEVER drops off

I'm now running a consistant 17psi and spool is reasonably close to the original turbo. My 285/30/18's are just about history at 8000 miles
lest you think the 53 is a "small" turbo...here are a couple file pics I grabbed from another listers post showing the approx. external comparison.'
The polished one is mine...and i like that it's a bolt on kit. I went dry with mine. Less things to go wrong and simpler plumbing

Hmm...I know 15psi is "on" before 4000rpms (I build full boost by 4000 and sometimes less depending on load, etc.). I'd have to watch it. Mid range power is excellent at part throttle.
As you know my goal is your M Tune and 80# inj's...that WILL be fun!! Still sticking to more preventitive maintenance before M Tune. Clutch and TT to go
NOTE: I never comment on turbo selection as I am not qulaified as many of the people who build brains on this forum! I only commented regarding the LR Super Turbo's (primarily the smaller sizes) since i have direct expereince with the turbo and vendor. Assuming the OP is planning mild supporting mods and perhaps even stock inj's I do know that the 48 or 53 will work well for him.
And...I am happy with LR and their customer service.

Hey I recognize that comparison picture! I have the 53 on the racecar and have been happy with the spool up characteristics. Hoping to make it to the dyno next week and will post the charts.
