Doc - you sure those hubs/spindles are 87+?

Those are a disaster waiting to happen. 86T spindles and the already inferior hub looks like it was machined completely off at the O.D. to fit an over-the-hub rotor on it....CRAZY

Lol, crap you are right. I could have swore I saw an ABS ring in one of the pics. I guess someone using 86 hubs and spindles, but a slide on rotor ala 87 and later. Odd.

Really a curious hub. I am going to take a closer look this evening but I think it is one piece and doesn't show any sign of being machined. Did everything after 1986 come setup for ABS - even the NAs? The caliper conversion mounts look like the standare fare.

It is the inferior 86T hub and dangerously machined. It can be ID'd by 29mm measurement from wheel face to rear rotor mating surface...

So you think someone welded and machined together the two pieces of an 86 hub to create this one? Pic of 86 hub for reference...

No, someone machined the OD of the 1-piece cast hub to fit an 87-up rotor over it. All 87-up rotors have a 155mm insert and another machined step inside them. I can tell by the first pics you posted that even the machined step on the rotors was machined into the 86T hub (to fit it). I have all five type hubs and it is already the weakest by design and machining the outer webbing that holds the wheel is insane. Add bigger brakes and that's ludicris.

If I am not mistaken, this car was put on the track with these upgrades when new. Josh, give the prior owner (for those reading, he is a friend of mine) a call, he can probably give you more info on it. But I believe all of the stuff on this car predates the 87+ changes, and certainly predates the Turbo S.

When I got home this evening I figured out what Xchop was saying I was all confused. This is an 86 spindle and hub as stated earlier. Instead of the rotor being bolted to the back of the hub someone turn down the top edge of the hub a hair to accomodate the inside of a later rotor when mounted on top. (as understood by a non engineer I powerwashed the hub this evening and will post a closer up pic.

From what I understand this work was done by a highly respected shop and racer here in the Atlanta area originally. Then the car was used only for racing and turned some very fast times on Road Atlanta. They were doing something right
