968 turbo hood vent for 951's?
Is it feasible? Would it be worthwhile?

Seems to me that it would be worthwhile. It would pull the hot air coming out of the intercooler and put it out over the hood instead of in the engine compartment. In theory it would be great... I don't know if there's enough room to fit it in there, or if the cost would make it worthwhile at all.
I think a custom made one would likely be easier than trying to use the 968 specific unit. Getting it in a new carbon hood would be a lot easier too.

I have been trying to figure this out for a long time, the 968 RS unit is out of production and the only person selling a replica is out of Europe and very hard to get a res ponce from.
So as dangerisland said it would be easier to go with else, there are a couple of options out there, and at some point and time I will get one on my car, or some 951 because I think it would make a big difference in underhood temps and intercooler efficiency.

Looking over the internet there are a couple different options...

Is the air that hot after it passes thru the intercooler?
It would be nice to move out some of the hot underhood air, maybe a vent to the rear of the hood?

The real advantage would be getting good flow thru the intercooler, the possibility exists that the air going thru the IC and radiater could back up or not flow well out of the engine compartment and therefore hinder air coming in. Exhausting out the hood is a very good idea because that is a low pressure area and will help suck the IC air out possibly increasing velocity/volume. The 968 vent will not work because the 968 hood extended down further (into our header panel area) and our hood latch structure blocks where the air would go. On a race car with pins and a fiberglass hood, it would be easier to do, but a stock car would require a good bit of modification. I've got a few ideas I'd love to try but like most of the time, I don't have enough time or money to explore it.

And other high hp 44's do have the vented hood, and as andy pointed out the factory seemed to think it was a good idea on the 968 Turbo RS, so there must be something to it.
Then you can look at the tuning world of supras, skylines, evo's, etc, and you often see hood vents on them, now i'm not talking the about the rice crowd, i'm talking about those car that really are pushing the limits from the likes of JUN, and top secret etc.
I will figure it out on my car before too long, I just need to put aside the funds for a fibgerglass or CF hood......

Has anybody measured air temp after it has passed through the intercooler? How much heat is picked up by the air. And I wonder how much air flows through? If it is a fiar volume might it also be used to cool the under hood ares?
