Eastern Creek Supersprint. 3ltr 951 chasing a 2010 GT3
Hi Guys,
Thought i would share a recent clip from our Porsche Club supersprint round at Eastern Creek Raceway. Thanks to Patrick(333pg333) for allowing me to borrow his camera for a few sessions during the day. Also for uploading the session to his youtube account
Our car is a stock weight 951 at 1375kg(3025lbs) with a full tank of fuel, it is running a turbocharged 944 S2 engine (twin cam 16v 3.0ltr) with low compression pistons and a vitesse stage 5 at 1.25bar with E85. Also running 265/630/17 R100 hoosier slicks all round with Moton club sport shocks.
We had a great first shakdown of the new engine. looks like its going to have a lot of potential.
First lap out is a warm up and then we get into the action. i pick up the pace a little by the 3rd lap and catch the GT3 exiting turn 9. The Gt3 was a little bit modded with an aftermarket exhaust and Michelin Slicks
hope you guys enjoy it.
Sean

Bruce, I have found on that track that the GT3s take different lines to us and there are some corners that can be taken a couple different ways. While a pro could definitely be faster, this guy did a very good best time and held off a modified 996 GT2 down the straights so he wasn't dragging the anchor too much.

Beautiful track and nice work getting around that beetle that was slowing you down. Did you have beer cans rattling around the back seat when you started?

Thanks Guys,it was a fun day that was for sure. Usually i give the car in front of me a head start, being a supersprint its your fastest lap that counts. but Patrick was bugging me all day to keep up close and have a dice with the guy in the GT3. i couldnt resist.
Your going to laugh but i had a hand full of coins in the ashtray, i had completely forgotten about them until i got out on the track. and then i would forget about them again when i came back to the pits.
Thats amazing, 4 seconds? how long does it take to do a lap at HSR?

HSR isn't a track itself, but you could compare laps at all their tracks to see the differences. I've heard the GT3 guys in the US say that the Hoosiers are a bit slower but are a fair bit cheaper and last a bit longer.

Good job And a successful shakedown of the 3.0l 16v too!
A bit surprised though that the two cars seemed to have similar acceleration, you should have more power with similar weight.

Just from my observation of fast rear engine cars on this track especially, they really seem to have an advantage out of slower corners than us. The two straights on this course are preceded by a hairpin and double apex 90o turn, so they just get the jump on us each time. I'm guessing there's more acceleration to be had out of Sean's car in the future too Gustaf.

Yes the 911's with their heavy rear end is great for traction out of the corners.
I couldn't really tell the rpm's of Jet's car but I think many people shift gears too early missing out on the acceleration. There's no such thing as riding on the torque when you're after maximum acceleration. Here's where datalogging comes in handy, it will do a lot of differance down a long straight if you shift too early. Never shift before redline
I bet the driver in the 997 was pretty surprised! It's pretty cool to beat Porsche's finest track car with a 951

Here's another session with a few more lbs boost. I think this was hitting 1.3 bar during the middle of the day when the track was at it's hottest and the tyres got a bit too overheated. You can see that grip becomes a bit more elusive, but also see a touch more aggressive acceleration.
