Exclamation WTB 951 Cam shaft........please help

I need a 951 cam shaft, with pulley if possible. The P.O's mechanic forgot to tighten the pulley bolt and the key stock chipped/cracked the end of the camshaft.

TIA

Paul.

It should be the same cam as the early NA cars, you may have better luck finding one if you broaden your search. Good luck

You need an ealier camshaft from a 82-85 944 NA or one from a 951. The 86 plus NA have a different number.

Using an N/A cam from a later car is actually an upgrade...

Yeah, I beleive it has 8 degrees more exhaust duration. It helps the bottom end too.

So if I go for the later cam will I see an increase in performance? Will I have to change chips. Will I see any drive ability problems?

If an early or a late N/A cam is put in a 951, does the #1 position move at all? (I'm asking because my #1 is a top right instead of bottom right on the distributor) I think the PO may have put a different cam in the car. That it the only way I can explain this difference.

This is because your engine is not at TDC, #1 piston, on the compression stroke.

You are 1 full revolution off.

My flywheel timing marks are matched with the cam timing marks. If the rotation is 2 to 1 and the flywheel is marked symmetrically, then I should be at TDC. I verified this with a probe in #1 as I slowly rotated the eng. The marks line up perfectly.

Is the flywheel marked symmetrically?

James, it sounds like your distributor-rotor may be installed incorrectly. Perhaps the holder for the rotor was installed incorrectly? Although that's keyed, so it can't be installed except in one orientation. Other idea is the rotor is rotated in the holder and the little screw holding it in isn't installed?

Everything is in place and the car runs well. The screw is in. I was emailing Tony G and he said that maybe the cam is aftermarket and the clocking of the distributor may be off.

I would love to find out if the cam is aftermarket or not and if I do infact have it out of whack. (can the part # be seen through the cam tower plugs?)

Is it possible for a 928 cam to fit in the tower of a 944? I am grasping at straws to explain it.

If the car is not performing to it's fullest potential, then WOW, sign me up for even more fun!!
