Thumbs up Australian Tech Edge Wideband AFR Meter

Hi:

Wideband AFR Meter ... looks like this might be the perfect tool for tuning ... at a reasonable cost too (US$269 - or even less if you want to buy the parts and assemble it yourself).

<a href="http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/wbo2/default.htm" target="_blank">http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/wbo2/default.htm</a>

Is says they are working on a data logger - probably to interface with a palm device of some kind. Thats what I'm waiting for.

Cheers,
Michael

That thing looks like a good deal. What if we were to start a wideband o2 club? You paid a certain amount to join and then you could rent it when you need it. The money from the first members would go to the purches of the unit and the money from new members could go to new o2 sensors that will wear out. Just an idea, but I would join.

I bought an assembled unit, took about 4 months to get it.

Seems to work well, once my engine is broken in, I am going to the dyno and will be able to compare readings

I had an extra O2 bung welded on my testpipe, so it is completly seperate from the stock unit.

Hi David:

Do you have any way to log data?
The Palm option looks excellent:

Just a reminder, you need to buy an oxygen sensor that matches their system. The link on their site doesn't work for me, but I think that this is the sensor that they want, and it is $139 from NAPA

I have built two of the units and they work well and have both units tested to 2% accuracy.

If you haven't purchased the unit yet, I would wait for the next release of the unit (currently under test). The main problem with the current design is that the input voltage has to be above about 13.5 volts for the heater to work correctly. When the car is at lower RPMs or when the system has a heavy electrical demand, the O2 sensor will give incorrect readings. The next unit will also have a NB output to connect to the ECU if you want to only have the WB O2 sensor.

Lots of info on palm datalogging on the web site and on their Email board.

Thanks Brian - I'm still getting my car back together now, so will definitely wait for the release of the next version.

By the way - what sort of experience with electronics /special tools etc do you need in order to successfully build the DIY version?

The kit is easy to assemble with lots of diagrams and test instructions on the web site. You will need a good soldering iron, small cutters, pliers and a VOM. They now offer a assembled unit for anyone who doesn't want to build a kit. If you run into trouble, they have a users group board that gets answers to most questions.
