I drove my dads 93 corvette recently and that thing has a lot of torque! it's also modified a little. he has a chip on it, upgraded ignition, bigger throttle body, raised compression, modified intake, no big stuff though. Do you think I would be able to compete with him with the mods I have now? I have autothority stage II chips, and the boost is set at 15 psi. I'm getting my exhaust soon.

LT1 is almost like a turbo as far as making lots more HP for not much $$. Hotter cam, headwork, chips and exhaust and the thing will crank out 500HP and 500 ftlbs torque. And, it will do it without much drama. There is no replacement for displacement.
Having said that, you should be able to tear him up at the track - with a good tuned suspension you will out handle him day and night. I believe the 951 chassis is much stiffer with less flex than the Vette, especially if it has the targa top.

Yea, it's a hard top. my dad even says that it feels like a completely different car without the hard top. He wants it port matched and he wants the head to be ported and polished. i will have my exhaust by then, I will like to see how my car performs agains his.

With my 951 (chip and manual boost controller @ 14-15 PSI, everything else is stock) I pulled beetween one and two carlenghts on a Camaro SS LS1 1999 on a 20 to 140 mph acceleration. These cars push beetween 310 and 315 rwhp bone stock. I may be wrong but personally, I've never seen a stock LT1 breaking into the 300 rwhp. In my opinion, you shouldn't have problems to compete with him on a rolling start. On a standing start, you'll need a very great launch.

in Houston there are many bowtie performance shops, including MTI which has produced a natually aspirated 9 sec 1/4 mile Z06 (ZO7). The stock LS1's aren't quite hitting 310 rwhp on the dynojets, but the Z06's stock hit about 360 rwhp. LT1's can be easily massaged to >400 rwhp. I am assuming that SilverBullets's dad's car has cams and some headwork, since he stated that the compression has been bumped. I would imagine he is talking about cylinder pressure and not mechanical compression b/c that would mean new pistons/rods/crank. Either way it sounds far from stock, and really mean!

I'm talking about cylinder pressure. he had the head machined. I think when I get my exhaust, I would be able to keep up, probably not beat, but keep up with my dad.

Yes, SS is farily beatable. I raced one from a dead start. He took me off the line, but caught him in 2nd, 3rd. It was great cause he was out driving with three other SS cars. They all watched me take him.
My buddy has an 85 vette, mostly stock, and he says he can smoke me enough off the line that I would not be able to make up the difference even in the mid range. He says he has 290 tq and ca hang with the C5 off the line. I'll have to give him a run and see.

The Camaro SS that you beat had beetween 320 and 330 lb-ft at the wheels (over 400 lb-ft at the flywheel) and would destroy a Corvette L98. When properly driven, the SS can reach 60 mph in under 5 seconds (beetween 4.7 and 4.9 seconds) bone stock and has a 105-108 mph trap speed, which is way better than a Corvette L98. Thrust me, if you beat a Camaro SS, you shouldn't be affraid of you friend's Corvette.

Yan- I thought the 99 LS1 engine made 320 hp at the crank, which equates to about 278 rwhp. The LT1 engine made only 20 less hp. I do agree that the L98 cannot run with any of the cars on this string, if I remember correctly, they came stock with 240 hp and it was the first year for the tuned port injection. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

My cousin dan has an L98 corvette. It has lots of torque from the bottom but once it passes around 3500 and up, there's just no more power. plus the 4+3 transmission on that car is a real pain. Stock the L98 in 86 did around 6.6 to 6.7 to 60. PLus what really stinks is that the digital speedo max's at 80 mph.

Yan,
Let's not confuse RWHP with crank hp.
The last time I saw someone Dyno Jet a, 2000 C5 with a six speed, Corvette the car put-out 260 RWHP, approx. 25% driveline loss, in stock trim. With a K&N FIBK, modified computer, and a rising rate fuel pressure regulator they got it up to a little over 290 RWHP.
I'm sometimes amazed and a little confused when I see some "tuners" RWHP figures. The numbers can be misleading depending on the correction factors they use in measuring horsepower to the ground. A non Dyno Jet dyno can give you a different RWHP reading and it's usually much more optimistic than in reality.
