mid 12's.......wow!!!!!, too bad they are girl cars in disguise (or will become a complete girl car with in the next 5 years)

BTW, has n/e body noticed that 5 out of 7 SS's and WS6's are being driven by girls? maybe it's just my area

Luke,

I have noticed the same thing and that can be reinforced by driving by a strip club before they open and count the number of Camaros in the parking lot. It seems, many of the girls that drive Camaros either work at Hooter's or a local strip joint.

On another note, a friend who previously managed Hooter's made the comment: "...white shorts, orange shorts, then no shorts." I guess he was referring to the career progression of his previous employees.

"Another reason the LT5 wasnt kept was because it was made in conjunction with Lotus, and I think that even Mercury Marine even had something to do with it actually. Guess it was pretty expensive like Luke said. "

Yes, the LT-5 was designed by Lotus with guidelines from GM. Things like bore-centers and diameters had to match the other engines. Since it was too high-tech to be built in any GM plant, the work was actually all done my Mercury Marine (hand-built). In its day, it was by far the best Vette ever! Too bad GM couldn't give up their NIH syndrome (Not Invented Here) and learn something from Lotus, like lightweight body construction, high-output engines and effective suspension designs.

At least a decade earlier when Toyota owned a fair chunk of Lotus, they were able to transfer the technology to their own cars. Even low-end Toyota Tercels had four-wheel independent suspension. Toyota made a huge profile selling their Lotus interests to GM, who ended up losing hundreds of millions when they sold it later.

Remember the Isuzu Impulse with the emblem on the side that read "handling by Lotus"?

I had no idea SS had that much hp. Should I chaulk up my victory to him being a bad driver?

Also, I only pulled away in 3rd right before 4th and it was by a small margin running stg2 chips as the only upgrade.

My muscle car enthusiast buddy that was with me couldn't believe it.

Sorry Silver - you don't have a challenge anymore. You have a car that you won't see unless your dad slows down for you. The Z-06s are mean machines. I would take one anyday.....
Then I'd sell it and sink the 50 large into my 928

Seriously though. Built Z-06s are walking away (on the track) from Don Hanson's built 928 with 500rwhp. Its just nasty. 6 speeds, 3100 pounds stock, and 405 (stock).

Every year Corvette has improved thier niche car. Last year the Z-06 was 385 I think, and this year it is 405? And thats 2V. The ZR-1 (32V, 5.7L) topped at 405 too. Talk about maximizing potential. A two valver making the same power as a 4V with the same Displacement. Its called CAMS.

Lingefelter is making crazy Vettes. He strokes and bores, or he just Twin turbos them. If you ever get by a vette and it whistes - walk away. Do not pass go, do not collect your ego.
Yes - there is no replacement for displacement - but there REALLy is no replacement for displacement AND boost combined.

You boost heads can obviously imagine what it would be like if you had your beloved boost AND cubics.

get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a manual boost controller. Crank the boost up to about 20psi and you will smoke his vette

That is right Ethan,

The LT-5 Was designed by Lotus, and build by Mercury Marine. Many Chevy engineers were pissed because they didn't get the chance to design the engine. They didn't even get the chance to make a counter proposal to Lotus' design. GM was just trying to leverage the Lotus name.

The LT-5 was extremely difficult to manufacture and was strictly limited in production.

Actually, a current C5 outperforms the ZR1 in every way except for top speed, and they are very close there.

As for a 944T vs. an SS, LS-1 SS are very powerful cars. I have seen them smoke many cars, including 944 T's... my friend has one. He, regularly makes an example of my friends M-Coupe. I am not saying a 944 doesn't have a chance, just know your modifications.

The raw HP number won't tell you a whole lot when you compare an SS to a 944T or whatever, it can only give you a guideline. A euro BMW E36 M3 had about 316 HP, the US car had about 242 HP. The cars performed almost identically. It's all about weight, HP, torque, traction, suspension geometry, etc...

The most important aspect is drivers skills. It's easy to say I beat an SS in my 944T... but don't draw any conclusions until you know the other guy did a decent job of trying to pull his car. I have a friend who constantly thinks people are racing him and he just blows them away because in fact they are just driving speedy, not trying to race. He thinks he can beat cars that are far more capable as a result... I tried to set him straight but he didn't like that.

Of course, in the end a properly modified 944T can take an SS, but remember that there are modified SS's out there. 944's have the great suspension though

In my 951S with custom chips and running stock boost I beat a new SS vert to about 60 (My LSD was sweet!). After that he had 2 car lengths at about 80 mph.

It all depends on the kind of race. On a standing start, I can understand that the results will be 60% driver / 40% car. On a rolling start until 140 or 150 mph? First of all, the guy in the SS didn't stay behind me until 150 mph "just to play with me". Also, when the guy had it floored in 4th and 5th gear (because he didn't use his 6th one at all), he didn't need driving skills at all to use 99% of his car's potential. Finally, I talked to the guy after the race and he admitted that he gave all what he could, and that he was sure that he'd smoke me. I asked him if it was an LS1, he sadly answered that it was an SS LS1 1999. I tested my trap speed with a G-Tech Pro and I obtained 107.9 mph. Being given that most G-Tech Pro readings are about 3 mph higher, it would give me a 104-105 mph real result at the track. The LS1 Fbody runs beetween 103 and 107 mph depending on the car (somes are stronger out of the factory).

I don't know what to tell you... There are 2 possibilities:
- A chiped 951 running at 14-15 PSI can be about as fast as a SS
- I need to get my car inspected because there is hidden stuff in there!
