Exclamation ALERT! EVERYONE MUST READ!

This is a followup message to the thread below detailing the destruction of my turbo. After performing the autopsy yesterday and today, the cause of this has been found to be an untouched factory part that can come loose over time.

If these somehow become loose, it's a straight shot to the compressor wheel.
It's a simple 5 or 10 minute fix to put lock washers or loctite on them and anyone who hasn't, please check. Hope this helps you avoid this PITA..

Twinspool,

I didn't see these pictures but I was putting loctite on my bolts and ran into that lower forward bolt. That is a tough bugger to get a wrench on because of the goofy angle and tight quarters. I said to myself, this must be the one causing trouble because some dope mechanic isn't torquing it up tight. Sure enough, I look at your pictures and that is indeed the problem child!

So, I think it is the angle and being shoddy that is the problem. Trying to get help from Porsche was a real long shot, but now I think there is no way.

This would be an excellent excuse to use on the wife for a MAP or MAF conversion

I can just see it now, everyone will be throwing nuts and bolts down their intake. "Whoops-darn that bolt ate up my turbo. Honey, I might as well upgrade...."

Red loctite is stronger than blue and takes more to break free. I'd probably just use blue ... well, that is what I'm doing once I get a small u-joint at the tip of a very short extension driver. This bolt is a bitch to get ahold of properly and I understand why it is not delt with. Don't approve, just understand how turbos are getting grenaded.
