I'm thinking the same thing as Rhesus.
Apex-i has a turbo timer that doubles as an a/f gauge. It displays ratios (10.0 to 20.0 instead of led bars) it can also display o-2 sensor voltage (960-002). I'm wondering why something like this would not work? Or maybe even a simple voltmeter with the wide band o-2 sensor?
Am I missing something?

The wideband sensor is a unit that requires a dedicated electronic control circuit to function correctly. Notice it has a five wire interface, lots more going on here then a Narrow band O2 sensor. Why is it companies are in business selling the interface circuits? Because it doesn't connect just directly to a gauge showing AFR.
