Default Help troubleshooing tubo cooling pump

The electric water pump on my car does not come on when the car is shut off. From my understanding it should run for about 30sec regardless of temp, whenever the car is shut off.

The pump works, I ran 12v to it and it ran. The wiring between the G19 relay and pump is good (I ran 12v to where the relay plugs in to the fuse box and the pump ran) I just bought a relay, it was missing when I got the car, but the pump doesnt come on at all.

I opened up the relay and there is one post with no solder on it. Does anyone know if that is how it should be? Or is there anything other than the relay that would cause the pump not to run?

Thanks

I'll open my relay tomorrow and let you know what it looks like.

I don't know if it helps, but there is a post on pelican about replacing a timer chip on the relay that I guess fixes these:

Thank you!

I read the post on pelican, I just bought the relay from someone and it is supposed to be good... but maybe not.

Does anyone know where it gets the signal from to know that the engine has been stopped?

I opened mine. looks just like yours, no solder.

I'll post a pic in a little bit though, there are a few differences between mine and yours in what joints are soldered together. not sure if it effects anything though.

did you check the connection on top the shock tower?

Try wiggling or removing and putting the turbo thermostat back in. That's happened to me before, and as soon as I moved the probe, it turned the pump on.

I'm going to replace the sensor... but as of this morning the car won't start. So I need to finish troubleshooting that first...

Can you get at the temp switch for the Turbo pump without removing any other parts?

Thread resurrection... what if the aux cooling pump for the turbo never shuts off? Is that the same relay? Where is the temp sensor for the cooling pump? I'm assuming it's different than the thermofan switch that controls the fans. Sorry, I did a seacrh trying to find out as much as possible, but was having trouble getting good hits.

Ok, found the info on the temp sensor co-located with the pump. So, if the pump runs continuously, does that indicate bad sensor or bad relay?

Unplug the sensor. If the pump stops 30 seconds later, it's the sensor. If the pump continues to run, it's the relay.
