Post tranny woes

I just opened up the tranny on my 86' and found a tooth missing off my 2nd gear and a couple off the one on top of it!!! (this is what I was expecting)
What are my options? I was told that to remove 2ng gear I will need a 10 ton press. Is this true, and if so should I go looking for a re-manned box?
Does any body have a box out there that they would sell me?

Give Brian Copan a call. Brian is located in Cincinnati, 513-779-3302.
Brian is one of the best gear box people out there. A good portion of the Porsches running the Daytona/Sebring/ALMS races use Brian. He has done two transmissions for me in the past and I had no problems with his work or service. The good news is he is no more expensive than a dealer.

Just take it to a machine shop or an independent garage and they should be able to press it off for a small amount of money.

That's was the plan but the price of gears would be very close to the price of a used/ remanned tranny

Ha! small amount of money huh? well when i rebuild these trannies i am using my press alot! on and off then on and off. there are some really low tolerances in these gearboxes. and since you are in there i guess it is time to replace all the bearings. just be careful of which bearings you buy and double check the tranny #'s. Also if at all posible, use the same brand bearing. Somebody told me to do this so i did but i would feel just as good at putting a temkin bearing in instead of a ***!

I have an N/A tranny for sale too if you want it for while you rebuild, that is how i started whit the N/A's, email me if you're interested.

I went used when I lost a few teeth on 1st and 2nd. I found one with 30K on it, really good shape. Didn't have LSD so I put my old one in there. When this one goes, it's 968 gearbox time.
