944 to 951 conversion, worth it?
how much money and work would it take to convert a non-turbo to a turbo? is it worth it? or should i just wait to find a turbo. i'm going to upgrade the performance on the turbo anyway, so does that make a difference on the car i start with?

I hadn't added the total cost of just parts in the 944 -> Turbo conversion listed in the <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=000965" target="_blank">'this thread'</a> reference. Minimum list of parts came out to $9250 not including labor or misc. parts like seals, nuts & bolts, etc.
For the price of converting a 944 -> Turbo, you can just go out and buy a 944 Turbo outright and have two cars. Personally, if I was going to turbocharge an NA motor, I'd start with an S2 or 968 engine and convert that. Which in fact, is what I'm going to do next...

Yes, it's more than just the engine. 951s had uprated suspension, drivetrain, brakes, you name it, it was improved. If you plan on building a car to better than 951 specs and spending a lot of money to replace everthing on the car, a 944 is as good a place to start. If you just want a 951, get a 951.
