mono wiper conversion?

absolutely! This is something im including in my build at the moment. We are putting on a slightly modified mono-wiper mechanism from the 90's Mercedes E-class onto the 944. I know there were some issues with people complaining about the car rocking from left to right slightly when the wiper arm was in operation on those mercs, especially when the car was at standstill, but i would imagine that was probably due to the softer suspension on the e-classes in general; so i wouldnt imagine it would cause too much trouble on my car with much stiffer suspension. I also think it gives the car a more cleaner and modern look, not to mention the fact that i should remove wiper flutter at higher speeds, because we will be trying to place the arm at a lower position at rest than the stock arms.

Yes, it's dreadful stupid. It certainly can't serve a function, and must be something only ricers do. I mean...
Ricers exist because they want to have "sports cars"... we HAVE sports cars, ergo...we can have the single wiper and not be rice. WIN.

Why anyone would want a single wiper on a street car that actually sees rain is beyond me. Wipers are there to wipe the water off the windshield so you can see where you're going. With one in the center you will not have as good of coverage as two singles. It's a whole lot of work to save 2 pounds.

I don't think porschephile 924 was calling it rice. He actually called it fried rice

It's all relative though...
Why did they put super lightweight wheel nuts on the 911? What's an extra 1/4 lb? Or RS-A door panels instead of 5lbs of leather, speakers, and latches.
I think the single wipers look cool, and when done properly are just as functional. They have much reduced load on the wiper (lack of linkage, complexity, etc). I loved the single blade in my 190E. If I had one on my 911 I'd probably not have it clocked in the middle of the windscreen, but it's all in the eye of the beholder. One man's tea tray is another man's ducktail. You know...

Just use rain-x. Any water on the windshield will be removed by 30 to 35mph, no wiper required.
For the mono wiper, maybe a MB wiper mechanism can be adapted. I don't know if the current models are using them, but they were during the mid '90's
