Post stage II chips wanted

I've been cruising ebay for a while for a good deal on some chips.. I have been thinking about the APE chips. They claim 43hp.

For those of you who have other tuner's chips, I want to hear which is the best. Weltmeister? APE.. (is that the same as autothority?) and whatever else there is out there.

So LET'S HEAR IT!

and yeah I know chips are the cheap way to do it and not as good as a standalone.. I've read all the posts by you guys, but it's just not an option for me right now. My car's basically all stock, performancewise, so I think I'd really benefit now from the chips. Maybe later, when I get more upgrades, I'll sell the chips and get either an SDS or a MAF / turbo upgrade, but no room in the wallet for that now. got school to pay for!

OH AND>>>If you've got some chips you are selling, thinking about selling, etc.. email me!

and give me the details. thanks!

I had the APE Stage 2's in my '87 and loved them. a very very cheap upgrade that you will notice. As far as I know, the Welts and the APE's are very similar, Steve R chips a little better but more expensive, and SFR should have some on the way.

I just sold mine for $180.. sooze and lose! Most are going for $240+ on ebay.

thanks for the replies.. question: if I've got an LBE, I won't need a modified banjo bolt like those that ship with the APE chips will I?

Same thing with like the europarts chips/wastegate shims.. would I gain anything over just using the LBE if I used them in conjunction with wastegate shims?

Danny,

I have he Weltmeister stage 2 chips. The PO put htem in over the APE(Autothority) because a well renowned Porsche shop owner said some guys with he APE were expeierenceing some knock problems, however I have talked with some guys here that have not had those problems. HP/tq I believe are about the same. There is aanother comany that does only chips that happen to be here in Orlando called Superchips. They specialize in custom chips. They also claim great driveability and "part throttle" increase in performance as well. I know they will cost more, but they say for a 944 turbo, they have a custom chip that makes 290hp/310tq I think at the rear wheels, but don't quote me on that. they are at www.superchips.com If you call, find out a price. I would assume in the 500-600$ range.

BTW

Most of the power you see from the upgrade comes from upping the boost. Hence the "jetted" banjo bolts.

And the jetted banjo bolt won't work as well as a LBE because it only delays pressure getting to the wastegate. I would use both a LBE and a shimmed wastegate. That's because the LBE comes set at 10psi (1 less than stock) and the shimmed wastegate will raise it up to 15psi and ensure it can hold boost in the high-RPMs as well.

I've got an LBE, very good increase once I increased the spring until I get right under 2 bar on the stock guage.

Anyone got any shims they're not using? I guess I'll not get the chips.. too much bother anyway (rich & lean roller coaster)

I think I'm gonna find some shims, get an APEX'I s-afc to get a better a:f ratio and keep the LBE on to act as an MBC.

Then when I've got more money, 3" downpipe back and new turbo!!!

I too am looking at buying the Superchips E Proms. They are actually available at Vertex Auto at $189 a pop, really affordable if you ask me. They come with the shims and instructions for drilling the banjo bolt. They are set up for 14 psi and CLAIM !!! 281hp and 300ft/lbs or something of that sort. I have not heard any bad things as of yet.

I think the website is www.vertexauto.com
I don't think the chips are listed in the site, you have to call them and speak with someone. They were very helpful.
