Default Ron Davis radiator?

Anyone using one? Big difference in cooling vs stock?

They're twice as expensive as a new stock one, I'm wondering if it outperforms the stock rad to warrant the cost...

Im not quite convinced on that. We just recently changed the stock radiator in our 951(22 years old) for a new one. it wasnt even leaking. We changed it simply just because it was 22 years old .will the Davis radiator last 44 years? As far as cooling capacity how much do you need. We ran at the track on the weekend in our supersprint series. We run a stock 2.5 with a vitesse stage 3 on E85 at 1.5bar boost. thats 22psi. and we had no overheating at all.

thanks to Patrick and his video camera for the footage. just to show that we are not taking it easy

The Wizard radiator seems to be a much better value (~$150 over the stock replacement), and much better cooling capacity (If you need it).

Got a link for the Wizard radiator?

I'm running an LS1 in my 944, plus it gets to be over 100F here in the summer. That, combined with the thin air due to the altitude, makes for a temperature loaded car, particularly on track.

My main question isn't if the Ron Davis radiator will outlast a stock one, but if it will offer superior cooling to the stock one to justify the price differential.

Wizard sells on Ebay, or their site is http://www.wizardcooling.com/

I think there is also something to be said for radiator ducting on these cars as well. Can you run the lower belly pan with the LS1? The vents in the pan are designed to help remove air from the engine bay. Maybe some hood vents would help as well (Probably more help on a turbo car).

I use a Ron Davis radiator using their new flex design. The stock radiator works fine for most. Actually better than most replacement radiators.

I changed to their new flex technology as we expereinced leaks on two radiators. I think the stock radiators failed from all the suspension work, and some TQ. We also added thicker insulating on both sides of mounting points. My RD radiator is not really mounted, rather it now slides into a slot with plenty of room and held in place with little tq and locking nuts. It slides in/out like a AC filter. Plenty of room for flex.

Do they work better, yes. Needed for a stock or modded car...no. If your V8 was operating well with a stocker, then simply replace what worked. Replace all rubber washers on both sides when installing your new radiator.

Some good info on the RD unit in this post :
https://rennlist.com/forums/7280033-post14.html

George, could you share some pics of your install?

This thread appears just at the right moment for me, my current engine generates a lot more heat than the 2.5, and when driving at sedate speeds, I feel that the SFR front mount IC significantly blocks air flow.
Also still running the original radiator...

Sure, but it is installed in the exact same place as the factory unit. I've modded my front bumper, intercooler, and upgraded my AC condenser while moving it from the stock location.

Ron Davis makes great radiators. The pictures sent would only show stock location mounts. Moving the AC condenser was part of the design for my car.

We upgraded this part and moved it away from flow to the radiator.

Honestly, if you are having heat issues with your V8 PM Tony Garcia. I have no experience with your application. Love to help, but my input is worthless with a V8 install.

Tony G is the **** for this application.

Not to be an outright dick, but I don't see how 1 post is enough to provide adequate information about any product.

I'm sure the Ron Davis unit is excellent, but is it better than the other aluminum radiators available? Is it so much better that its worth the price Ron Davis gets for them? Any real evidence of it?

Where did I say it was better than any other radiator available?

Some feedback on each unit is what I'm looking for, so if you have good info to share, please do.
