Default Steering wheel not unwinding...

So the wheel won't unwind/self center. I have to turn it back manually. If I don't the steering wheel stays where it's set and the car will drive around in circles.

Power steering reservoir is full. Rack is a new one from Zims. Any ideas?

Alignment is off. Caster angle usually allows the wheels to straighten out automatically. Obviously there's a lot of things that could negatively affect your overall alignment (besides the usual alignment settings): tire pressures, bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, shocks, etc, etc, etc.

+2 ,Anytime you do front end work you need to have an alignment done. That's been my rule of thumb at any rate.

Check out the front end as well as all the bearings in the shocks. They can bind up causing memory steering.

Doc, has it been like this since you did the swap? Or did it just start? Did you put spacers between the sub-frame and the body?

Default steering

Check the bushings the new steering rack is mounted in. Shot bushings will allow the rack to slide back and forth. Also could be loose fasteners mounting the bushings. Just a thought from past experience.

Well, I haven't done an alignment since the swap was done. I don't remember if the shop told me or not, but they didn't do one either.

So that's my first order of business. While the car is on the alignment rack I'll have them look at the steering rack bushings and check the fasteners to make sure they're tight.

Van, yes, I had to use 1/2" spacers...
