Regarding the price, I think $6k is about right for this car with all its faults and unknowns.
Hmm, yes the Carfax can be wrong, but the gauge cluster has clearly
been modified at some point. The junk title is interesting too, it was issued in 1993, and the damage had to have been 75%+ of the cars undamaged value, so that must have been some serious damage..the seller himself says the title is clean, the carfax could be wrong there.

I'm going to take the car for a spin
and take it to a PPi and get a leakdown. Anyone know any shops around the SF area experienced with 951s or porsches in general? I was going to try The Stable.

Edit:I have several other cars to substitute as a DD. I own a couple BMW e30s and realize routine maintenance is a must for cars this age. Also I know that it's not a car you can count on all the time(ie BMW cooling systems..)

These guy's worked on my 951 and 85.5 when I was in the Bay Area, about 10 years ago, I see they are still there so I'd at least give them a call.

Hmmm, much of the things of what the guy 'claims' makes me nervous for you about buying it. If it were me, I'd keep it in the back of my mind as an auxiliary, but that's as a last resort. I think there's enough of these cars in the USA that you won't even have to think twice about it.

Turbo badge on the wrong side?? How can you upgrade from a factory stock KKK turbo to a KKK turbo?? That doesn't make any sense and throws a red flag up for me.

If there is no documentation for that "complete" engine rebuild, it didn't happen. That's just what would be running through my mind when there and looking at it. Why would someone throw out that kind of documentation? Kind of major...

I have no idea what kind of a 951 you can get for $6k in California, but it seems for any money, that car looks risky. If it's running at 18psi on a stock HG, you'd be looking forward to replacing one real soon. It does have a few nice little goodies here and there, but not enough for me for a deal.

My vote: Buyer beware!

Could be an upgrade to a 26/8, or maybe a K27....

I don't know that this example is any better than the one the OP is looking at. Both cars seem to be owned by people who don't know the car all that well.

OP, take a look at this thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...ml#post8451597

I posted some links to eBay that show typical prices. The 2nd one shows actual prices that 944s have recently sold for, and for the ones that didn't sell, it shows the reserve price and the highest offer. That might shed some light on market values.

I am no expert but I would not buy that car - take the money you'd likely have to spend on that car very soon, and use it to buy a better one up front.

Hmmm, a 3 page Carfax history...that doesn't throw up any red flags to begin with...

Update: I tried to run the VIN on autocheck to compare the results but it says the the VIN isnt valid because it contains the letter O. what gives?

Also anyone know how to get title information on a car? I tried calling the DMV but it doesn't give me the option to talk to someone..

This.

It's actually a zero and not an o.

I agree salvage title car in that condition is worth 3 to 4 tops, assuming very clean paint etc..
