Post Shocks? Struts? What do I need?

I'm a bit confused. I've read through many old posts, and am just as confused as before.

Do our cars have shocks, or struts, or both?

I know whatever I have is worn out. I just want a nice firm ride - not racetrack ride, but maybe a little firmer than stock.

So, what do I need? What is the best value for money? I'd like to keep the car lower than stock if it's still possible. How much can I expect to pay? Can I replace them myself?

Can someone please give me their suggestions?

Thanks!

So ride firmness can be increased without touching the springs?

Im facing the same problem here - suspension is tired, but I dont want to spend an arm and a leg.

I see spring/shock combinations for the front of the 44/51's but the rears are "funny" and I do NOT want to screw with the torsion bars... ideas?
