My Latest Purchase - a track car in the making....
I know it's not a 944 (I couldn't bring myself to track my 944 turbo) but it is still a Porsche. I'm just looking for a powertrain now. I hope to keep it all Porsche so if anyone has any leads on a 3.2, 3.6 or even better a 3.3 turbo engine send me an e-mail. I weighed the car the other day and it came in at 1400 lbs without an interior, engine or transmission. I already have a 915 transmission to go with the car. Comments/recommendations?

It's not a real Porsche.
Nah, just kidding. Besides, it doesn't matter. That thing kicks ***! Those are some serious flares, how much rubber is stuffed under that thing?

Now that looks like a fun project! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
I've been thinking about one for my garage as well. Figured I'd stick with the "non-porsche" group too! Besides, why change when your having so much fun.

I believe they are 17 x 9 rims up front with 275/40 rubber and 17 x 11 rims in back with 315/35 rubber. Think I'm going to have traction problems?

My goodness that is a lot of rubber and that looks like a great project. A 914-6 is on my list of things to build, but alas not having any money always gets in the way.
If I had to put a motor in there I would go with a 3.8 Race spec motor, you would have a great torque curve and it would be fast as hell, but that is some serious money....

WOW, that's beautiful in an ugly kind of way. If you put a 3.8 race engine in there, be prepared to buy some nomex depends when you take it out!
It looks like it will be a blast of a project.
Are there issues wedging something as large as a 3.8 in there?

A common engine swap for the 914 is a Chevy 350 so I don't imagine a 3.8 six would be a problem. The only other issue I could see would be the amount of coin it would cost to get a 3.8 race engine to begin with.

I am sure the 3.8 would fit, but yeah that is not a cheap motor. I know there is one running around in NC with a 3.6 in it, and let me tell you that thing is flat out fast. It looks similar to yours and watching him go around corners is impressive till and then watching it pick up speed like a 911 twin is even more impressive.
Again good luck, and keep us updated...

I know the car/ driver/ and engine builder of that beast. The engine and car was built by David Brown and his crew at Carolina Speed Werks in Mooresville, NC for Andy McNeil. They also built the 3.4L in my fathers and mine 911 racer.

I think you are mistaken...
qualifying for the race had a GTP1 914-6 going 01:59.769.
<a href="http://www.pca.org/pca/clubrace/2002_results/vir/g1grid.htm" target="_blank">PCA VIR</a>
Now also thought the SRP cars were doing 1:39 in the race there in the dry.

1:45 seems a bit too quick

I agree that the 1:45 seems quick, but something to keep in mind, all the cars in that series are built to some sort of specs, and i'm not sure what the 3.4 TT 914 was built for, but my guess is that it could be putting down more HP than those cars and / or wiegh a bit less. This is all conjecture and I would like to see some stats on that car, but i'm sure it is a beast and I would love to go for a ride.....

I'll admit I was not timing the car myself. The consensus of friends at the track was that this car would have lapped the field in the feature race. An off-track excursion preventing it from running sunday. I'll double check to see how accurate that 1:45 figure really is. Sick car though !
