Post 21 gallon tank.......only accepts 16 gallons

What is up with the filler on my 951? I can only get about 16 gallons in the tank. I used to work for a BMW team that raced M3's in IMSA Firehawk in the 80's and I remember the Bob Akin 944 S2's would have to jack the car on the right side to get a full tank. Is there some kind of restriction or blocked breather problem? This is the second 951 that with which I have had this problem.
Thanks

Justin

Are you shure the tank is empty, on my 86 the low fuel light comes on and there is about 4 1/2 gallons left to go.

I started a thread awhile back about average mileages and temp gauges, that slightly addressed this. When the warning light comes on in my Turbo S, if I fill up immeditely, I usually get about 17.2gal in it. I've driven it up to about 90 miles past the light though, and still didn't run out. I had one guy (a responder to my post) say that his actually ran out after about 30 miles or so(?) past the light, and that his would usually accept about 17gal at teh light too- he belives his tank is closer to a total of 19gal... Based on my experience, I belive mine is very close to the 21.1gal quoted in the factory specs... One of these days, I plan to get a little gas can w/a measured amount in it (about 2gal), and stick it in the car when I'm nearing empty. Then, when the light comes on, I'll run it until it just starts to sputter from "riding on fumes" and then stick the 2gal in it and fill up immediately- I think I can figure it out that way, but I've been too lazy to do it yet, plus, I'm a little leary of actually running out completely and maybe damaging something...

When my warning light comes on, I too can only get about 16gallons in if I fill up immediately.. I've never tested to see how far I can go before running dry..

My light is always coming on no matter how much fuel I have in the tank. It seems to go on and off constantly.

I have a S2 which I picked up across country and drove it back (2500+ miles). When that tank is full it is a very, very long time between fill-ups! When the light eventually comes on you have approx. 75-100 highway miles fuel left. I pushed it once and was lucky to make it to the next station (20.5 gallons when I filled it).

I'm from the 928 board with an S4. When my gauge was showing empty the car would only take 13 gallons. Finally I drove it in familiar territory until the lamp came on and the car took 18 gallons. The tank is 22. So on a recent trip from LA to Phoenix, keeping the car in the 90 to 100mph range, I went 400 miles. The lamp was on for quite a few miles at the end but the car took 20 gallons on fill up.

I have ran my till I had to put in 21 gallons, I was getting ready to put on a new filter so I wanted to go ahead and try to catch any crud that was in the bottom of the tank in the old filter.

Yeah, I forgot to mention, that I have in fact, actually gotten more than 20gal in it, on several occasions, w/the most probably being about 20.5- like I said, one of these days I'll get myelf a little gas can and leave it in there, and run it on down until it's sucking fumes...
