Default Disappointing Dyno Results

Modifications include the following: 61-1 Turbocharger, Lindsey Racing MAF, Powerperfect Piggyback, 55# Injectors, Lindsey Racing Dual Port Wastegate, and a hack job 3" exhaust made by the local exhaust shop. I have a feeling the exhaust is to blame for the low numbers as it is not a straight through muffler. The run was done at 15lbs of boost.

The run,

Shes going for paint shortly, please forgive the mismatching header panel.

And the numbers.......

Run1 was done in 4th gear
Run2 was done in 3rd gear and produced less power.

Initially it was tuned with 951 max chips, the afr's were off quite a bit WOT. The Powerperfect was installed to fine tune but its garbage. The afr's are satisfactory for the current boost setting. I would like to get a stand alone ECU in the near future and prepare the engine to handle high boost. My mechanic tuned the car using the piggyback and fuel maps available.

This is one of many cars that pull on Camaros and Corvettes.

Looks about right to me. What rpm are you hitting a bar of boost in 4th gear? Have you tested for intake and exhaust leaks? Compression and leakdown?

Hey man personally i think thats pretty good especially for 15psi. I bet with a better tune, maybe examine the exhaust and higher boost you'll be way better.

I mean you look at Lindsey's site with the dyno graph they made 400hp at 20psi and who knows what additional mods they have. So honestly at 15psi with a ok tune and a questionable exhaust, your bound to make more with some fine tuning, and 5psi is a decent amount of difference there.

How many miles are on the engine? aka, has it or the head ever been refreshed since new?

With that turbo, I would expect a lot more torque than that. That's not much more than a stock '88 S.

I would say check your compression, possibly refresh the head, get a good exhaust and a good tune, and you should be smokin' down the road.

There are 16X,XXXmi on the engine and I suspect it is due for a rebuild. Dont confuse crank hp for rear wheel horsepower, line up a 247 crank hp 951 S with a 284rwhp 951. The difference would be huge.

That seems about in line with what MM951 (mike) was making on my dyno - and I think his engine/mods are similar.

More than I made with more boost and mods. Don't be too disappointed.

Its not the exhaust (unless they made it smaller than stock). On a stock internal engine I have made 350/350 at 15psi by selecting the right parts (turbo, injectors, Standalone). The exhaust was a cheap test pipe with stock muffler. This was on a Mustang Dyno so it was not an ‘optimistic’ number.

The late torque peak with an immediate roll off of torque tells me that the parts are mismatched and the tune is not right for the parts. In fact the Torque peak is horribly late, that will not make for a fun street car.
