1st Gear - Cant Get It In
So I had my trans completely rebuilt about 2 years ago. I have about 30 track days on it since then and zero street miles. The issue Im having is I cant get the car into 1st gear. Ive tried at idle as well as with the engine shut off.
I find it odd since I never use 1st on the track. All other gears work fine. I bled the clutch and no luck. All hydraulics in the car are brand new and I pressure tested the system. I find it hard to believe it could be a synchro or something else in 1st.
Any ideas before I pull it out and dig into it?
Thanks
Brian

I did try the other gear and all other gears are ok. When running I can get it in 1st gear but only when the wheels are in the air. When the cars on the ground it wont go into 1st. When the car is turned off it wont go into 1st. I can get the shifter into the gate but it does not engage. It goes into the gate and then just stops.
I pulled the trans and am going to take a look at things on Monday. Hopefully its just a synchro or something smaller.
Thanks

If you let the car roll slowly, can you get 1st?
Syncro might be gone, so if the gears aren't lining up, its a MFer to get in. If you let the car roll, to move the gears a little, will it go in?
Probably won't work, but its simple to try to narrow the problem.

Let us know what you find tomorrow.
Unusual that it wont go into first when the car is shut off. More than just a worn synchro. Maybe a broken one. I have pulled a 3rd gear synchro out in 3 pieces... Ever miss a shift and try to stick it in 1st instead of 3rd? That will tear up the 1st gear synchro, even if you dont get it into gear.
If it was a broken shift rod fork or a spring/detent problem on the slider assembly, you would likely have problems engaging 2nd gear too.

Have you looked at the shifter to linkage rod connection? Known high wear item. The shifter connection rod wears into a barrel shape and you lose throw for 1st, first.
