Beautiful, almost brought a tear to my eye. Are the gear ratios the same in the new tranny? Are they interchangable? I ask because as you move up in hp, first is almost unusable.

"I am wondering how the differentials in expansion rates between the grout and the aluminum block / cylinders will interact? Will the expansion differential eventually cause the grout to crack? Or, cause the block or cylinders to crack? Or, is the expansion differential between the two different materials very similar and thus no expansion / contraction related problems will show up?"

There are different grout mixtures for different types of alloys used in blocks. The hypereutectic Alusil material in our blocks actually expands a lot less than plain aluminum.

Rage2 brings up an interesting point with the steel sleeves. Enough of the original cylinders have been removed that I doubt they experience much load from combustion. So their primary purpose is to center the steel sleeves over the crank. Anything that can be done to stiffen up the cylinders and keep everything aligned will help.

Rage2, did you fill up the space around the cylinders to have them the same height as the later 3.0L blocks?

Thanks for posting Rage, great project. Also curious about the grouting process- how much of the original space is filled and would this have much effect on cooling?

Very very nice!!
Will you use all your "old" parts for the top? Head, turbo, WG, SDS etc?
What kind of boost will you run on low quality fuel?

Regarding the expansion / contraction issue, I think Danno makes a good point that the steel sleeves probably bring the ratio back to something that works well with the grout. Does the grout have enough "flex" in it to resist cracking or otherwise breaking up from the repeated heat cycles?

Rage,

Great work but will the engine cement cause more heat retention?
Has anyone else done this before and why did you go this route as opposed to using a 3 liter block, is it because you want a high reving engine?
It seems like it will work and I look forward to more of the great videos you have shown us in the past.

Very nice. Yeah, I'm right there with michael, curious about less of the cylinder wall "bathed" in coolant.

Grouting doesn't have much of an affect on cooling since the grout is at the bottom of the block.

Most of the heat is generated at the top of the block/cylinder head where the combustion takes place.

With more displacement, the turbo will most likely be running in a different efficiency range at 12psi, so I won't know until I start to slowly crank the boost and find the limit. My guess will be around the 15psi range with the bigger IC and water injection.

Rage,

I was contacted by your shop about two days ago regarding the rings and balanced rods. I'm sending another set out. I told the shop, that if they recieve the previous set, to please send them back. I'm working on another set of rods for you right now.Your pictures look great, but I thought you were going to keep this a secret until it was done!!!

Please keep me posted.

Take Care!

Range,
Whay did you bore out your 2.5 liter as opposed to going with a 3 liter shortblock and a 3 liter crank?
