Yeah, the 4+3 tranny is really a 4-speed tranny. Then there's an extra gear that translates gears 2-4 into taller ratios. Like the two-speed transfer case in a truck tranny. The shift pattern you have to use is similar as well with you manually selecting gears 1-4, then controlling the secondary ratios separately.
