Post My chips.

Thanx to the info everyone here supplied me with, I have finally ordered my chips, and since the overwelming responce was to get the gurus, that is what i ordered. Should be here in a week, the car on the other hand wont be done for 2 weeks.

How difficult is it to install the 3bar fpr.

The guy at the shop can do the whole install in 2 hours.

The FPR install is really quite easy and I wouldn't consider myself a mechanic by any standard. Just make sure you pull the FPR and not the damper. If you're standing at the front of the engine, the FPR is at the back of the fuel rail (closer to the windshield).

For that matter the chip install really isn't that hard either. I was a little cautious going into it, but it really just isn't that hard. I'm a decent size guy so the hardest part was getting the DME and KLR out where I could work on them.

Stupid question: Does the chip have to be soldered into the DME or is there a socket? I am getting a 951 in a few weeks and would like to get Guru chips to start off with.

The chips simply push in with your fingers. You have to be vey careful that all of the legs are lined up first, or you will bend them. Overall, easy job.

I've got a chip-replacement procedure with pictures on my <a href="http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx" target="_blank">951 RacerX website</a> under the "<a href="http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/ChipsInstall.html" target="_blank">Stage-II AutoThority</a>" section. Should take about 30-minutes your first time around.

I know it's covered on Danno's site but get the chip orientation right the first time,,the indent on the chip with the indent on the receptacle.

I have changed lots of chips to various 944 models. It's quite easy task to do.Just be sure there is no static electricity.Ground yourself for example with wristband used by computer mechanics. Its cheap insurance! Don't wear woolen cloths ! Also be sure to orient chips right way.
It's also good to disconnect the battery before you start do anything.

Make sure you disconnect only the +positive cable. Leave the -negative cable connected to provide a ground drain for static.
