Without belt covers, water and mositure will more easily find their way rusting a lot of things. They make look ok initially, but give it time. Plus, if you have any hosing/wiring sag or run low, they would wear on the belts/pulleys. Belt covers are there for a reason for a street car. Track car I wouldn't run them.

Also the only wire in that location is for the oil pressure sender which has its own keepers on the block. Its not even close to the belts.
Next argument please

For a race car I'd think it'd be fine, but with all the debris and crap on the roads I wouldn't take a chance on a street car. I'll take the minor time inconvenience before rolling the dice on mine...

Maybe I AM lucky. Of all the vehicles I've owned (over 2 million miles), I've never had an unprotected belt (serpentine, V, or any other) thrown off or break from debris. Actually, I've never had a belt break or fail.
The wife's Grand Caravan had a poorly designed tensioner that would let the serp belt come off when crossing huge water puddles. Her Acura also chewed a couple teeth off the TB, but it was behind nice covers.
I wonder if the engineers intent was to reduce noise, or to protect the belts?
Lets get Patrick to make belt covers for the PS and ALT and we'll have no worries.

Check the price of valves and/or head swap lately..

Maybe on a track car where you are checking all the time, but on a street car I don't see the point in exposing belts, rollers, pump to the dust and debris of the engine compartment. Just my opinion of course (oh, and the opinion of the very engineers who came up with that massively over-engineered snap ring in the waterpump).

Have you ever seen the dirt and **** that accumulates inside that timing belt cover !!
Besides then you would never get to see this

Ski, you are going to love the 2.8L Unfortunately in PCA you will have to be either a heavy GT3 or an underpowered GT2.
Looks like I am in the minority here as I have opted to keep my covers on. My main reason is that it is a track car and as such I have found out that all surfaces are racing surfaces even the non paved ones. Also there is usually quite a bit of debris on the tracks I go to, such as bits of tires and what ever is dragged back on to the tracks from various off tracck excursions.

+1 on clear covers.
I bet if someone like LR fashioned a clear cover up, they'd be a hit. Visual inspection + covered safety = Win! I know I'd get one after doing my next belt change... this spring. Paging LR! lol.
What about that guy who runs no belt covers or body panels for that matter? lol. Let's see what his opinion is on the subject...
