Driving faster, or pulling away even is not a problem, my 951 is very capable, its just when ever it rains...i dont stand a chance. I am aware of what it might require, i doubt you could even use the original engine or drive train at all. But i do have an 83 944 shell sitting behind the house and we were thinking to our selves "if we could make that AWD..." lol So ya its not something i plan to do any time soon...but hey...who knows...

2) install chevy 4x4 drivetrain with Q45 diffs/cv axles front and rear for independent suspension
3) enjoy 4-wheel burnouts
give me a blazer or bronco or something, a 944 shell and a few weeks...ill make it happen

The factory actually made a prototype 944 that had a configurable engine location (front, middle, or rear)
I'm not sure if it had FWD ability.. I used to have photos of it, but I can't find them online anywhere anymore.

PEP (Porsche Experimental Prototype) was not a 944 proto. 951 front blinkers & door handles (in & out) were more or less the only items which came from 944 world. Engines used were 911 ones. like were transmissions. Dash were partially taken from 928.
If we consider 4wd 944, using oem parts, just take Audi Quattro version of 944 016 trans, bolt it to the engine and use Audi rear axle.

I hope it's in the Museum. It is a totally unique car after all.
...but you guys can build a better version. Maybe in the future when the new flat 4 turbo is released you can mid mount one of these into a tube framer like PEP!!

That PEP reminds me of the Cheverolet Engineering Research Vehicles that were Corvette test beds. If you don't know what they are take a moment to look them up if you have a chance. It's proof that we used to be able to make some amazing things in America. The CERV II and CERV III were both insane for their times.

The only time I've really thought of an AWD 944 platform was when I thought about what to do with a twin turboed LS block. I mean hey, if we're already looking to cram something else into the drivetrain, might as well dream about being able to make room under the hood for all that turbo housing!
