Default Has anyone ever built an all wheel drive 944?

A friend of mine has an 05 Subi STI, we cruise around together which is alot of fun(since the cars are close performance wise)...as long as the road is dry...first hint of rain and he is constantly waiting for me. I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen or known of someone building an AWD 944.

that will involve changing the motor and having a gearbox in the front.
if you have the $$$$$$$$ anything is possible.

I don't think you'd ever want to change your 944 to all wheel drive. I think you just need to drive faster

Bolt a 944 body to a full size Chevy Blazer frame? Pfft at the WRX when you go rock climbing.

Well it's not like you can't dump enough cash into these cars as they are! If I had deep pockets and was truly insane, I'd look at one of the earlier BMW all wheel drive cars. Good luck!

PPS Just buy a Eagle Talon or earlier DSM car 90 to 94 and go nuts!

Would require a new engine, engine mounting, oil pan, front suspension, front suspension mounts, new hubs, etc etc.

I would say get tires that are better in the rain.

Swap in the driveline from a Nissan GTR and you're good to go. That's the only rear transaxle-AWD car I can think of.

You guys have it all wrong. You're going about this the wrong way.

Take a lesson from Porsche.

Use all that space in the back of the 944 for battery packs.

Add two electric motors to the front wheel hubs.

Tie a large generator into the driveline somewhere to charge the battery packs, and wire the battery packs up to the electric motors in front.

Wire in some electronics to regulate the flow of electricity, and you've got an on-demand front-wheel-drive power boost to pull you out of those wet corners! Also good for getting you off the line while drag racing.

It would definately require drastic front end modification. The front suspension is in line with the middle of the engine. Sounds like a waste of time to me.
