Identifying my turbocharger
My PO didn't have a lot of information about what has been done to my car, but from what I can tell the owner before him, or possibly the original owner, had some basic modifications done. I just had my car dyno'd, resulting in 294/305 RWHP/TQ. According to my research, this is outside the capability of the stock 26-6 turbine.
This is an 87 with a dual port, MBC @ 16 PSI, and chip/tune for 93 octane. There may be some internal work that I don't know about, but it doesn't sound like it has an aggressive cam or anything like that. Would these numbers be characteristic of a 26-8? I'm trying to unravel this car's tangled history and get it back into good shape, and figuring out what was messed with is probably a good place to start.

Well you can tell what turbo it is relatively easily by looking at it and comparing it with the pics at Clarks Garage.

Just my two cents worth, I don't think those numbers are too high for the 26-6 turbo.

still to high for a 26/8 to be hitting 294bhp and 305torques on only 16psi. The dyno might be a bit off, or you do have a pretty modified car. Could you take pictures of stuff under the hood? I know the turbo is often buried in the engine bay but we might be able to see some of the supporting mods and see what you have. If it was me, I would be happy with the numbers then wonder what the hell is causing it and if its done safely(boost gauge, A/F ratio).

How big is the inlet to the turbo? does it use the factory J-boot?

But keep in mind boost tapers off. 16 on a k26/6 will occur at ~3-4k RPM, after 4k it goes downhill fast and by 5.5 you're @ 12psi or so. 300 rwtq doesn't seem too unrealistic, but 300 rwhp isn't going to happen on a mildly modified car with k26/6.
