Just say NO to cyberdyne a/f gauge
It didn't break or anything...ok the LED that says "Rich" at the top is broken...but it's just useless...
I mean who is gonna sit there counting how many bars its showing while blasting down the road at 80 or 100mph?? And even if you count the bars...what the heck does that mean???
I ordered the autometer a/f gauge yesterday...it looks like its display will be much more usefull...
The local speed shop said that the cyberdyne's display is "less annoying at night"...yea...useless is more like it...oh well...that'll teach me to listen to a talon driver!

They are toys for the most part, yes...
but I hope to get the a/f ratio somewhat right with it...and then fine tune on the dyno...
Wait a second...
I'm gonna cancel my order for the autometer and get the Lindsey so I can see duty cycle as well! And also know what the little lights mean!
And I'll replace the a/f gauge in the gauge pod with an oil temperature gauge...
A little gauge happy I guess...but oh well...

If the A/F meter is not a wideband unit, the ONLY thing it will tell you is whether you are above of below stoichimetric, and not by how much. The units everyone sells are mere idiot lights and nothing more. You CAN NOT set A/F ratio with one, at least if you want your engine to live longer than a day.(if that)

These guages might not be very precise but IMO it's better then nothing. And at least they tell you if you are running to rich or to lean for less then 100$.
Also keep in mind that it's a GUAGE, it's only there to informe you.
Check out this guys http://gadgetseller.com he modifies air fuel ratio guages to work only on WOT and at a precise voltage.
I just got my new modified Autometer a/f guage set at .75v to .95v , each led has a volt setting so it can make the guage a bit more usefull.
I'm very happy with it.
The cool part about these modified ghages is that they only light up when you are at 80%-WOt. This means that the leds don't bounce aroung when driving normally. Plus you get 20led to view youre a/f ratio. I give it
Also the guys that does then seam very nice and honnest.

Exhaust Gas temp gauges are usually regarded as the proper units to install but you do have to bear in mind that you have to install the sender for it right before the turbo in the exhaust manifold to get a accurate reading

I was going to ask about this, I know the Supra guys only use EGT's and so do the WRX tuners, they both say the A/F is just no accurate enough. So my question is, who on the board is running an EGT gauge? and how do you like it?

I had thought about doing the EGT then money came into the picture. There is acutally a perfect spot for the sender. The emissions test hole in the crossover pipe is where I was going to put it. I may still do it if I can ever find a spare couple hundred bucks.......

It's pre turbo. And the good thing about that port is it's after the colector so you get the total temp of all the cylinders...much more precise.
But the thing about a EGT guages is that if the probe is not well placed you can get false readings. And if you don't know what temps = what A/F ratio, i does'nt help.
Anybody out their using a EGT on a 951?
