Default Band Clamps vs V band

Me and my dad will be stating on a new 3" exhaust this week. So the question is, What would be better to join the exhaust insted of bolt flanges. im thinking about v-band but also band clamps but not sure how band clamps will hold in the long run.

anyone with any experience with 1 or the other?

I found it realy difficult to assemble a v clamp at the dump pipe so stick to the flange there .
for the rest of the exhaust Vclamps are kind of handy as they allow you to rotate the pipe a bit so they are a bit more forgiving .
the ebay ones wont seal any good ..as they are you just need to make gasket for them..
the other thing you can do is machine the 2 faces so they have a 45 deg seat so that the 2 flat faces don't quite touch this will make an ok metal to metal seal..i can perhaps send you a drawing if this doens't make sense ..

Dump pipe as in down pipe from the turbo? if so im keeping that flange there. using a reducer/enlarger 2.5" - 3" there.
as much as we wanted to get the 3 - 3.5" downpipe made, we've decided to keep this exhaust simple just with the limitations we've got at home for the time being.

I'm not planning on using Ebay parts for this, as yes they tend give more headaches.
i'll be getting parts from a local truck / exhaust store in laverton north. i was thinking of using band clamps it looks alot easer but im not to sure how they will be in the seal.

so your to rich for ebay hey Pauly ?
if your not sure they are going to seal why pay the extra money from the truck guy..
ya old man will get them to seal with a gasket or my maching 45 seats in them..
the truck guy should be able to give you slip fit clamp on flex joints they will cost you a few more bucks but make the job pretty easy

ahhh yeah, and it's still cheaper then $70 a piece from a local place.

Where would you buy crush rings from for the x over pipe and down pipe local? i've caled local exhaust shops and they dont have any and porsche sell them for 80 a piece. The only thing i can think of is pauer turning or LR where they're 20 each.

I am using band clamps bought from JEGS since I use them to swap a straight pipe and cat. When it comes time to pass emissions here in NJ, I install a universal cat with the band clamps making the transitions simple. If your worried about exhaust leak, just tape some exhaust repair tape around the seam for extra measure.

Take pics of this project. I am hoping eventually I can do an exhaust upgrade. Although I still need to figure out my trans deal.

If you're using v-bands I sugget offsetting the flange on each pipe section by about 5mm to provide an overlap so that one pipe section slides into the other flange. (not very well described)
Helps to keep a nice tight seal.
