Default Cam tower questions

What should I use to clean the surface off with? Should I use some sealant with the gasket? What is the torque pattern and the torques? Thank you.

Oh and if someone can send me a compete torrent or e-mail me a copy of the files that contain the pet, service manual, ect. I would appreciate it.

HA, I just installed mine today!

I used brake cleaner
Gasket goes on dry
no specific torque pattern (although the torque is low..18ft lbs)

dont have digital copies of the FSM, but do own 2 hard copies

PET is available for DL from Porsche

PM me your email address and I will email you the PET... it is only 5M

or just go download it from Porsche

Great. I will be doing that tomorrow. Is the torque pattern and torque true for both inside and outside bolts? Thanks for the offer. I actually dont need the pet(just found it on my drive).

just because I went through the effort, I took a picture. Was thinking about doing detailed, simple things for the 951. I feel like clarks garage lacks some details, doesnt reference the fsm, and includes very few images. Video is good to.

hope this helps in your efforts! all the fsm's your looking for. there large pdf's so they may take a sec to pull up, depending on your internet.

http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm

there's no "official" torque pattern, but most people use a star pattern with good results. just make sure to go slow and make multiple (small adjustment) passes over it so that it lays flat.

FWIW - i applied a small amount of permatex....felt safer than leaving it dry. holding strong.
Good luck and happy wrenching

Hi, Just follow the torque sequence in Clark's Garage. com for the Head Bolts in the link below. The Cam Housing Bolts are torqued to 14 ft. lbs.

Cheers,

A long allen head 3/8” drive is very handy, even the super cheap ones from Harbor Freight will work (but I would recommend getting a good quality one since there are a lot of 6mm allen heads on our cars!).
Do not use a ball head allen wrench…you will be sorry if you do!
Do not reuse any fasteners that have any damage to the allen drive – if you absolutely have to use one that is dinged up a little make sure it is one the outside (next to the exhaust) and not on the inside.

The standard torque pattern for 99% of all multiple fastener situations (either one is fine) is a star or spiral pattern. Start in the middle and work your way out.

Thanks for the help guys. Gonna reassemble tomorrow. Need to get some anti seize compound for the bolts. Had a random question. Is it just a matter of miles for a spun bearing to happen or does it take lack of oil mixed with age to have a spun rod? Not sure if mine have been replace(pretty sure they haven't) and am wondering if I am going to kill my block if I dont take immediate action. Thanks again.

I believe the factory torque spec is actually 15, which then becomes about 150 after the motor is run for any period of time...

Can anyone answer my question about the bearings? I am worried that they are just going to let go and I will have a ruined block.

Granted what i have "heard." Low oil pressure at idle is an indication of the bearings being worn. Staying with a thicker mix of oil 20w-50 seems to be a the key to keeping the bearings well oiled and in place.

thanks. Anyone else have an opinion? Should I worry about anti seize on any bolts or can I go with out?

Go without the anti-seeze, at least because some of that will leach out into the oiling system. As others have said, gasket goes on dry. I made the mistake of using some hi-tack on mine the first time, and cleaning that **** up the first time was a pain in the ***.
