ha well...that would be your first problem
Honestly it requires showing up and talking to the regulars, even if you really want to deal with the cool kids who don't show up much. Can't tell much from a member list, which your membership chairman has. It lists names/addys/phones/emails/types of cars, but it doesn't tell you what the people are like. lots of people never updated their cars, either, so mom still drives a 914 instead of her SC, I only have a 924, etc.
Certain events attract certain people. If you want to schmooze, go to a house party. If you want to autox, concours or race, well go there. If you want to get more information go to a tech session. there's usually a new member party every year that pulls in a lot of people.

the coffee things are a mixed bag. it's a great starting point. Ask them about your interests, and where you should go to find the people who are the same.
It's kinda like in Ferris Beuller when the secretary rattles off all of the groups who love Ferris...you'll fit into at least one of the crowds
"Grace: "Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, *****, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, ********* - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude."

Pretty Bird, not all regions are as friendly as it sounds like yours is. I know a lot of people in this area and the mountain area are hard to talk to and it is a very clickish group at times. I was a PCA member 6 years and have let my membership lapse as I don't have the time to participate and have not been able to connect to many people. Also the 944 around here is looked at as a track machine only, absoulutely no love for it. This is not to say that there aren't some nice people, it is just a hard scene to break into.
