What to Buy, sorta like top gear challenge

I have owned several TDI's and that is on the top of my list right now because I can tune it fairly cheap and am familiar with the brand. I have owned several Touaregs, V8's at first then the V10 tdi, then the V6 TDI. If the '11 TDI's were not 50K, and had Air Suspension as an option I would be all over it with then new 8 speed it is supposed to get 28-30 real world HWY MPG with a mixed in the 23-24 range. I would not pass on a car because of the long list, but the items at the top are fairly certain.
If I could get my hands on a well maintained V10 tdi, I would up the 10K number, but for the purpose of this thread, 10K is the limit. Hint to racerxrick

I don't own a altima 3.5, but I've watched them spank alot of cars at our local "street legal drags" on Tues nights. 05's are out there with 40-65K miles for your price.
Drive one and you'll throw rocks at some of this other stuff. Just dont drive the new one with 270HP and CVT......soccer mom will do almost 100MPH in 1/4 mile.

Wife is on her 3rd Pathfinder and NEVER one problem on any of them.
I am actually looking for a DD as well and leaning on the Corrola or Altima.

The V6 in it was originally a Porsche design from the 90s. Ford redesigned it (read: created issues), then kept developing it. Mazda got in bed with Ford a few years back, got the aluminum 3.0L block, then put all their fancy valvetrain stuff on it. It's an interesting engine at the very least, though I always thought it should make a tad more power.
Heads were redesigned for MY2009, when the 6 went from the 3.0L Duratech to the 3.5/3.7L Cyclone.
The 6 is a good choice. I had a Speed6 for a few years, and loved it. I would also consider a Fusion, since you need an automatic. Same platform, but I believe the Fusion has a slightly longer wheelbase.

One other thing I have looked at a lot is the upcoming Ford F150 Ecoboost with 365HP and 420tq, 3.5L TT, specs other than that are pretty hard, if not imposssible to find. It is rumored that they will get in the mid 20's on the highway and tow 11,300 and have an option for onboard built in brake controller, which I think is an only for any 1/2 ton truck. Tuners should have a ball with this truck and I would not be supprised to see it out perform the new 6.2L Ford V8 easily. Just adding around 10% gain would net 400ish hp and 460 tq.

I would not consider a gasoline turbo engine in a truck if I were towing with it. There are reasons it isn't out yet, and there are reasons that fuel economy numbers are not available. The new 5.0L in the truck is the one I like, though I am highly, highly biased. I will be surprised if the EcoBoost trucks end up getting better mileage than the 5.0L. Great, great car engine. Not so much so in a truck, though.

BMW E36 M3 Sedan with the 5 speed automatic transmission. Plenty of those out there for less than 10k. It's going to cost more to maintain than the Maxima/Altima/Mazda 6.
Oh - I just saw your requirements on 2005 or newer and 50k miles or less. Scratch the idea above.... unless you are willing to compromise on that to get a truly great car.

With predictions of $4 /gallon by summer and $5/gallon in another year I'd go with a TDI. In fact I'm thinking I might get one for running around. I love my F250 Powerstroke and the 20mpg I get with it but having something that gets 50 mpg would be great for those times I don't need the truck.

How about the Infinity G35 sedan? 280hp, very nice car and gets mid 20s MPG. You can get them for $10K, but will have over 50K miles..
