If I could get my hands on a well maintained V10 tdi, I would up the 10K number, but for the purpose of this thread, 10K is the limit. Hint to racerxrick
I think a nice V10 TDI is insanely priced. They are up there with Cayenne TT. Just out of curisoity, why a V10TDI over a Cayenne S? The Cayennes are finsihed nicer and faster. Probably similar fuel consumption.

Drive one and you'll throw rocks at some of this other stuff. Just dont drive the new one with 270HP and CVT......soccer mom will do almost 100MPH in 1/4 mile.
Yea, that Nissan 3.5 motor is on top 10 motors like every year for the last 10-15years or so.

Wife is on her 3rd Pathfinder and NEVER one problem on any of them.

I am actually looking for a DD as well and leaning on the Corrola or Altima.

It's an interesting engine at the very least, though I always thought it should make a tad more power.
It amazes me the amount of disinformation that is out there for public consumption. Yes, Ford has used Porsche for some early idea generation, but Porshce has never come back with something that could be manufactured in high volumes. Additionally, both this 3.0L, as well as the Modulars were, at the times of their introduction, the most advanced engines in the world in terms of manufacturing tolerances. Finally, the 3.0L in the Mazda is 100% Ford, Mazda had NOTHING to do with the valvetrain design. Ford did a a DAMB version for the Jaguar and Lincolns DEW cars, but that was it. And again, it was Ford.

Heads were redesigned for MY2009, when the 6 went from the 3.0L Duratech to the 3.5/3.7L Cyclone.

The 6 is a good choice. I had a Speed6 for a few years, and loved it. I would also consider a Fusion, since you need an automatic. Same platform, but I believe the Fusion has a slightly longer wheelbase.

It is rumored that they will get in the mid 20's on the highway and tow 11,300 and have an option for onboard built in brake controller, which I think is an only for any 1/2 ton truck. Tuners should have a ball with this truck and I would not be supprised to see it out perform the new 6.2L Ford V8 easily. Just adding around 10% gain would net 400ish hp and 460 tq.
I would not consider a gasoline turbo engine in a truck if I were towing with it. There are reasons it isn't out yet, and there are reasons that fuel economy numbers are not available. The new 5.0L in the truck is the one I like, though I am highly, highly biased. I will be surprised if the EcoBoost trucks end up getting better mileage than the 5.0L. Great, great car engine. Not so much so in a truck, though.

What's the downside to (presumably, gasoline) forced induction in a truck?

BMW E36 M3 Sedan with the 5 speed automatic transmission. Plenty of those out there for less than 10k. It's going to cost more to maintain than the Maxima/Altima/Mazda 6.

Oh - I just saw your requirements on 2005 or newer and 50k miles or less. Scratch the idea above.... unless you are willing to compromise on that to get a truly great car.

The one I like is the upcoming 4.4L turbodiesel. All trucks should have turbodiesels!

With predictions of $4 /gallon by summer and $5/gallon in another year I'd go with a TDI. In fact I'm thinking I might get one for running around. I love my F250 Powerstroke and the 20mpg I get with it but having something that gets 50 mpg would be great for those times I don't need the truck.

How about the Infinity G35 sedan? 280hp, very nice car and gets mid 20s MPG. You can get them for $10K, but will have over 50K miles..

As I was reading all the suggestions the G35 kept popping up in my mind as well , all the good Nissan 3.5 v6 stuff in a fancier rapper.
