Default Fuel rail

Since there has been some posts about fuel rails I thought I would toss out my current version!
I have been making these for engine customers for a little while, after hearing years of fuel rail comments, gripes and complaints I figured the best thing to do was just make my own. Its labor intense enough that it doesn’t make much sense to market them – only a few diehards will really like the idea enough to want one!

Along the way of developing my solution I did hit on a solution that can be applied to the other billet style fuel rails out there, in fact just for yucks I had an attorney friend of mine to a quick search and its actually patentable. So the paper work has been sent in (Patent Pending!)….now I can share some pics!

In my mind its not the number of fastening points to the engine that matter – its how the injectors are held in place. You will find this very important if you play with the 16v manifolds – the 16v manifolds do not prevent the injectors from dropping further into the manifold – and exposing the upper injector seal!

The rail itself is nothing fancy – the one in the pictures has not been finished – it will be cleaned up and have a matt or polished finish. The support is the labor intensive part – it’s a complex shape. The idea is that its through bolted into the manifold and then you drop in the fuel rail and cross bolt that. Very hard to have the fasteners fail!

The neat solution is the injector retention clip – after looking at other billet rail designs and using several I found the problem to be that the fuel injectors could come out of the rail – the stock rails have retention clips that engage the injector cup. Since they don’t work with the billet rails I came up with this solution – the new retainers are stainless steel and held in place with two bolts. The injector will not slip out. If the fuel rail is removed you will not have gas pouring out. If the manifold gets stripped and the rail comes off you will not have fuel @ 40 psi flowing over your hot engine.

I have a bunch of these retainers and bolts if anybody wants to retrofit their rails – all you need to do is to drill and tap some shallow holes…..I suppose I can do that too if you want to try and talk me into it!

And to think, I was hoping to be the first... first on the street anyway!

WTG Chris with yet another inovation, I really can't wait.

Oh, and as far as does he have any left, he works on what is ordered, so if you want one, all you have to do it tell him and he will get it done when he can, or at least that has been my experience from working with him.. he may chime in with different approach to take.

FWIW, I held some of these pieces in my hand in June... CW does not skimp on the quality one iota! Could be why I was dropping off my motor while being shown around his shop! Deffinitely function over form, although he does make them pretty!

Nice work chris. just want to ask if its cnc made or you make it by hand as in using a milling machine ect.
the quality reminds me of the stuff my oldman use to make before he retired.
