fans on intercooler worth it?

my intercooler shroud cracked in to three pieces when taking out of my engine, so i was going to use the pieces as a template and make one myself out of plastic stock.
i measured the intercooler, and it'll fit three 140mm computer case fans. i found some 80CFM+ fans on the interwebs. i haven't checked, but if the radiator fans are 12v i could easily hook them up there. if not, just 12v switch power or something.
while it's almost easy enough to "just do it", i wondering if it'd be a worthwhile mod. more airflow, of course, is good. but if the car's moving and ramming air faster than the fans can move it, the point is moot until speed drops (which might be a reason to do it altogether).
thoughts?

think they will avoid airflow at the speed you need cooling - driving around in the city there's no power needed...
I think a better idea is to get a free flow through the IC

Fans would be almost pointless. Will somewhat obstruct flow at speed and really not do much at standstill.
If you want something useful then fit an intercooler water sprayer. Water/methanol would be even better.

In my experience WMI will lower boosted air temps most effectively. With the low compression of the 2.5 I don't see a big need for WMI unless moving some serious air. WMI is a great knock suppressor - is this motor prone to knock?

Nice scoop.. where did you get it? I've been looking for something a little bigger than mine, and twice as wide... yes, yes..I'll add the obligatory, ...... She said.

As a knock suppressor, it would be water or water/meth injection.
Everything's prone to knock right? Just depends on how much boost or timing you want to run..

i would be concerned with overspeeding the fans while car is in motion and burning out the motors. they are only meant to do a certain speed, all that air flying through them would make them go too fast.
also, the motor and shroud would block a good area of the exiting air thats passed over the IC, and the last thing a 951 is more restriction there. as someone pointed out, a hood duct is much better.
if you want to do an intercooler sprayer, i had something similar set up for use on my ac condenser earlier this year that cost me a grand total of $10. i used the windshield washer pump, fed from the stock washer bottle, and then ran some small hose to the front of the car. got a "patio mister" kit from home depot complete with hose, fittings and spray nozzles (various nozzle sizes available) and hooked it all up. wired the pump to an extra switch i had in the cabin. worked pretty well. it was "ghetto" but it worked. i only got rid of it because i changed to a more efficient condenser.

Very cool, 944er-teile. But it looks like it'll only work with 968 body work. The scoop would be right at the split between the 944's header panel and hood.

of course... just contact Martin at mertensmartin@web.de
unfortunately the front part of the duct isn't available until now - it's the part getting the air from the (larger) inlet to the IC. If you're interested we could think about getting it done as I made one in thin stainless steel...
