My point being more that if you accept that these new cars have 25+ years of new tech on them, they are already starting with a big advantage. Put a V8 with a blower and they have a significant power / torque level over us too. The main thing we have is the lack of weight. So put a well sorted 951 with a good driver against one of these cars on a track with multiple laps and I think we'd still beat them. I assume these new cars have all sorts of active management though which may or may not be to their advantage. So long as it's not too overbearing. If it's not, then they have us at a disadvantage.

Yup, but then when you start talking the vette, you don't even have a real weight advantage. My 951 was replaced with a supercharged C5 Z06. It without question will destroy my old Vitesse stage3 modified 951 in any venue to include road racing. The only disadvantage I can identify thus far is you really have to be on your game to hussle this 550rwhp car safely around a road coarse.

Oohh I've dreamed of Porsche building a new 951 too! I only hope that once Porsche is done clowning around with the Panamera series or SUV's, that they give their heads a shake and start designing a new 944 series. Someone should start a petition to get Porsche to do that.

They'd give it a 911-like front end and fatten it up to 3300lbs+

Hard to beat that combo. Not sure what that 'Vette weighs. Guess for this hypothetical we'll have to strip our 951 down a bit. Lets say 2600lbs wet. 3L motor.
Up to date suspension and bigger wheels with sticky rubber. If you want to make it a fair fight we'd better add some aero to our 951 too. How about Tony G's car with a race 3L motor?

Dang that looks pretty good... I'm almost tempted to make that a reality.

I understand that newer cars can and will smoke a 944 turbo, but these cars aren't slouches either. These cars are a lot of fun to drive. I would rather have a 944 turbo than most newer cars.

Just a bit OT, since someone mentioned the M3: I had the pleasure of driving a stripped out 2010 BMW M3 on the track for about 10-15 laps. It is a seriously quick and good handeling car. And no doubt faster than my 951 BUT, and its a big but: My 951 feels faster. Its just the way the power is delivered; Nothing, nothing, nothing, 3500 nothing, 3501 Everyting!!!
The M3 on the other hand is just so linear in power deliverance that you dont feel the power in the same way.
Fastest car=M3, most fun=951
For the record, my car has a few mods including the MAF, super 65 turbo, mafterburner, etc, etc

As for the forthcomming street race: No shame loosing to those cars, you will still have the biggest smile

The acctual M# i drove:

The actual 951 i own :

i think the gt500, which in this case probably has over 600hp now, will yank your doors off..

it could probably yank my car straight again...

The coolest thing about the 951: most can be purchased with 1 payment of $6000 or so. The new mustang will need lots of payments.

Uncoolest thing about the 951: When the mustang clutch breaks, or headgasket, he can have it towed to the dealer for a warranty repair.
