Arrow Refinishing wheels

Pick up some Cup II's, that need refinishing. I like the look of these HRE's (brushed tinted clear)

Thought I would try DupliColor Metalcast base coat, smoke coat and clear coat.... meh.... tried to keep the smoke light but looked blotched, once I was able to even out the color, wound up almost as dark as the Graphite phonies running currently and I think it's going to be difficult to match the shade between wheels.

Any color suggestions similar to the HRE's ?

IMO the middle is the closest, but still slightly different.

I really had to work at keeping the paint wet, it wanted to be grainy like yours.

The middle is the freshly painted wheel the left is ready for paint and the old graphite for comparison

If you could shoot me some details i would be very appreciative.

I the clear on mine was too thick and when i stacked them it left imprints of the cloth between on the lip. So......... i might have to start over again.

light coats per instructions were rough textured, a heaver coat was needed, so just a balancing act to keep it wet enough to be smooth and not so wet as to run, no runs on this first one

the only way you'll get the cup wheel looking like that HRE is to polish it, then sand it with some type of rotary mechanism to make the lines concentric, then clear it, just as HRE did

While I know there is no way to match exactly, I am ok without the brushed lines its the tinted clear color I am after.

Wait for cooler weather. Won't flash off as quick. Be caeafull, cold metal will cause it to run easier. Fine line here.
